330 compared to 310 power
« on: September 08, 2013, 11:48:04 AM »
Been running a 310 ported by Neil for a while now. TRX5B pipe 38pwk CR ignition rad valve stock air box lid off sunoco 110 strait amsoil 40:1. Bought a used 330 cylinder supposedly ported by Neil (no way to confirm this).  anyways, the 310 sure seems to pull a lot harder up top than the 330 does.  Seams to rev faster.  the 330 definitely has more bottom end and midrange but falls off up top.  So I just wanted some opinions on the carb and air box.  Is a 38pwk too small for a 330?  and is the stock carb to air box restricting flow enough to cause a problem?  had a 190 main in the 310 had to go up to a 200 for the 330.  It is also possible that the 330 is not ported. I don't have any pics of it so can't post any.  I will say that the 330 kicks over pretty hard compared to the 310.  never did a compression test because I can't kick it that fast!  the 310 was never a problem and had 210 psi.  Any opinions or advise would be appreciated.  The 310 needs a freshen up and I am debating which cylinder to use on the laeger and which one goes on my trail machine.

That's what I was wondering. But the stock carb to air box boot looks pretty small.  I assume that causes some restriction?  If I buy a new carb, it would probably be a 40.5 because I am thinking sphynx down the road...

If I go that route I will check with him.  Also is there a difference between the rad valve and v force reeds?  I never tried my v force on this engine.  Dont know if it will make a difference or not?

Vforce is more mid range to top end.  Rad valve is more bottom end to mid range.  That being said, its all splitting hairs at the reeds point. There is not alot of power to be gained by reeds compared to other mods such as porting.  I currently run V-force 3 reeds in my MX bike, and Rad valve in my XC bike.  But i wouldnt even hesitate to swap the two for a race, i doubt i would notice much of a difference.

Sounds good.   I really havent played with different reeds yet on these.  Maybe I will through the v force in and see if it changes anything.
