Pretty much what everyone else is saying - stretching and working out. I had back issues for a while in my early 30's and worked with a physiotherapist and developed a stretching and workout routine that has kept me pain free for years.  Guys naturally have issues with having tight hamstrings and if you sit allot - desk, driving, etc, your hamstrings tighten up even more causing them to pull down on your lower back.  If I don't keep up on my exercise and go all out some weekend by Monday I can hardly walk, so back to the stretching and it usually clears up in a day or two.

Wow alot of replies.  Thanks for all the tips and advise everybody.  One thing that I'm sure does not help my situation is I dislocated and broke my right hip racing mx in 99.  Buddy got it all on tape.  So ever since then I do sleep with a pillow between my knees at night when I sleep on my side.  Went to the back cracker today and feel better.  A long way to get back to normal though.  That is my downfall stretching.  I usually just rely on my muscles to get the job done and my back pays for it.  I don't race much anymore so I am not in the shape I used to be in.  Also getting old is a PITA!

olschoolr-let me know how the table works for you...might go buy one soon.
rupp250-that sounds like a great idea!
burns-maybe I should just go buy a table....beats hanging from the garage rafters like a monkey:frown-new:

I also don't have any excuse for not working out besides the fact I work second shift.  I hate getting up in the morning to workout.  I do have a total gym,elliptical,treadmill,100lb boxing bag, and a weider home gym contraption.  I just prefer to be outside rather than in the basement.

The inversion table works wonders, the stronger your core is the more it can support your back/spine, stretching is huge also.

I'm 6'6'' 235, so needless to say my back is always sore

For my training for the 2013 season i started doing some lower back exercises because last season my lower back would get tired.  Especially for the few harescrambles i did.

Okay well i started to type out how to do the exercise and it wasn't sounding the best.. erm... look at the pic linked below for the best description.

Yes I see what you mean Kyle.  I have one of those big medicine balls too.  I got a bunch of exercises to do from my chiropractor also.  Time to get back into better shape.  Can not stand being laid up.  For all you guys with the inversion tables....where did you buy them?  Wife and I are going to get one for me.  Then I can be as flexible as her.  Well maybe not that flexible.:biggrin-new:  I guess I am surprised that there are that many of you that have/had issues.  Makes me feel a little better just to know that it can be fixed basically.  Sucks can't even ride aroung the yard right now.  Thanks for all the replies everybody.  They are all great ideas.

Wow good info guys. I flipped my quad a month ago and the grab bar landed on my lower back. The flag spring broke on my buttcheek too...nice scar there...talk about a terrible trip
