36mm PWK Air Striker, where?
« on: April 03, 2014, 01:47:25 PM »
I've seen about seventy places that sell 38mm PWK A/S carbs.  Apparently Keihin also offers a 35mm and 36mm A/S carbs, and I've seen a couple of places offer the 35mm because they're targeted at the banshees.

I've seen reference to the 36mm A/S, but I've never seen anyplace offering it for sale, and I'm too lazy to start making a bunch of phone calls just yet.  So where do I find one?

They are only available on the newer KTM two strokes, ~2007 and up 200, 250 and 300s. I would look for one used as they are pretty pricey brand new. I have one on my XC 250R and it works really good in the woods. The overall length of the carb is shorter than a standard PWK so a reed spacer is needed to help it reach the air box boot.

x2.  Eddie is a Sudco distributor so you could buy a 35 A/S and have Eddie bore it out.

not sure about the 200 but the 250 and 300 ktm had 36as. it is quit a bit shorter than a standard pwk though. you can acess the pilot without removing the bowl and the top bolts on instead of the round top. dont quote me but the last generation rm250 might of used one also

When I tried to post this thread, the page took forever to load so I just shut it down.  I didn't realize it had posted, or I wouldn't have been asking the same question in chat.

From what I can gather, Keihin groups "quadvents" and "Air Striker" carbs together on spec sheets and stuff, but the 36mm PWK is only quadvent, not a true Air Striker carb with the fins for better throttle response.

I want a brand new carb, and I only want to spend about $250 on this thing.  So now I have to decide if I want to drop down to 35mm A/S, find a 36mm quadvent and forget the fins, or go all the way to 38 A/S.

This one is a true quad vent A/S. The RM250, KX250 and YZ250 used similar carbs but were 38mm and had TPS sensors for the ignition mapping. Price will get you though, new are well over $300 and used fetch around $200-250. Hopefully smart carb gets all the bugs worked out when they release the 36mm cast version!

theres a 36as on ebay for $250obo from a '13 ktm. engine had 18hrs so the carb 'should' be nearly new.  $350 is cheapest ive seen a new one. or check the ktm website for someone that installed a smartcarb
