Hey guys im looking to build a drag sphynx or puma build and cant decide what tranny to use. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to override my yukon tranny or just go with a oem 89 or go with a nate mccoy billet tranny? i already have yukons on my 350 and i have an extra complete yukon transmission thats just looking for an excuse to go on another engine.

Yukons or a McCoy will be stronger than OEM.  McCoy is going to be a huge cost increase as well but come with different gear ratios that may be desired for your application (see our gear ratio calc here to compare).  Personally, I would run cryo'd Yukons since you have them, but if I had the extra coin around I'd grab a McCoy set (last I heard there was limited availability with no plans for another run).

I bought the last two mccoys and ended up eating $80 in paypal fees when I was credited back money for one because he only had one complete tranny. He did offer a 2-5 tranny but it had no first gear but I declined the offer. When your running 16-17 fronts and 33-36 with big rollouts it's not dune friendly trying to get from spot to spot without first gear.

well one of the reasons i ask is because of the gear ratios. ive been playing with the gear, tire, rpm speed calculator and it shows yukons are faster. it makes me feel like thats the reason why im beating some of the fastest 450s at the dunes by 6 or more quad lengths or they just stop cuz i roost them and they cant see. i just figured if you have a better geared tranny why not override it and get the best out of it.

The guy that makes the billet trannys for McCoy is not doing them anymore. Not unless someone buys 25 sets. That's what I heard anyway.

Just to be clear.. Yukons have the same gear ratios as the 87-89 OEM transmissions.  86's are a bit different.  I set the Yukon default tire size at 22" rather than 20" on the OEM ratio presets.. so I wanted to point that out incase that's why you thought Yukons were faster.
