You guys using any tricks to get the mechanical seal out?  I heat it up around the rim and pull it out with pliers, not sure if that's the correct way but seems to work well.

Its possible the waterpump shaft is worn and coolants leaking past it..  Is it messy looking at all?  I used one that was rusty because it was the only one I had at the time, didnt take it long for it to destroy the seal and start leaking. Im not sure if it matters what year impeller parts you use, not sure if you can mix and match between the 85-87 and 88-89 parts

Impellers are the same 85-88. Only the 89 has the threaded impeller. You can swap the whole WP shaft assembly between any year.

Waterpump rebuild is a success! Just needed a little petroleum jelly and some canned heat! Thank you all!
