250r running in reverse??
« on: July 13, 2013, 01:48:54 AM »
I just bought a rick hot shot cdi that alters timing, and a Ricks 200 watt stator. I started it up and let the clut out easy rolls in reverse and like crap. Could the cdi be firing to soon and cause the motor to kick back it kicks the Hell out of my leg. And will they replace it for it being faulty?

I have never tried any of their components but I have never heard one positive thing about them. Most places will not return electrical but probably worth a phone call.

Oh I'm definitely gonna call them that's bull, someone that don't know much could have shot a rod through the piston... I went over everything even stuck another stator on it my old cdi barely ever sparks so can't swap that. And I ant buying another because they dont know how to set one up properly.

High compression combined with advanced timing will allow the engine to reverse if the RPMs drop too low from a low idle or almost stalling in a technical section. Try retarding the timing if you have an adjustable pulse generator holder or find a good stock CI to run.

Yea I'm running 14:1 compression, and it will start but run like crap in reverse. Every once in a while it will run forward and idle will be normal then drop, I give it gas to keep idle normal. My uncle works on timing more then me and said it's been retarded to much and to slot the pulse generator to adjust it right. Would that work?

Seams like a bad CDI but I also wonder if you have a bad connection? but then everything is new so it still points to the CDI firing at the wrong time.

You do have the pickup coil wires connected correctly right? I know that messes with the timing but I dont remember which way.

Before sending it back try reversing the wires to the pickup coil even if you have it wired correctly, maybe the factory wired the coil backwards.

A CDI fires on the negative signal so if the wires polarity is backwards it will either not run at all or if it does it will not run correct
Anyone looking for a great builder I highly recommend the following.
For CP products dealers I would recommend:
Arlan at LED(site sponsor), Pete Schemberger at Hybrid Engineering, Mat Shearer at Shearer Custom Pipes, Dennis Packard at Packard Racing, and Nate McCoy of McCoys Peformance.

Other great builders I also would recommend: Neil Prichard, Jerry Hall, Bubba Ramsey and James Dodge.

I put a 9 plug in it, ran a compression test it had 205 psi, removed the head and paper then gasket and replaced it with a thicker gasket. It now reads 160, and still does the same thing so it has to be the cdi.And does have no wheres near of a kick back now lol
