Pipe Question
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:12:46 AM »
Does anyone have experience with the CT Racing Midrange pipe, PTR Midrange or a Dynoport hand coned pipe?  I have a FMF on my R now but considered one of these.  I thought about others but they either have a long build time, are out of stock.  I have a riding trip next weekend and I am debating on whether to purchase a new pipe or just stick with the FMF.  I primarily trail ride and have a GNCC ported stock head on my machine now and will eventually install the 310 cylinder I have sitting in my garage.

Any input is appreciated.

I have the ct national mid, Its a great pipe. good bottom, super strong midrange and decent top end. it doesn't have top end like I would like for dune usage, but is a great pipe for play, trails, MX or woods IMHO.
For trail riding it would be hard to beat in my opinion. Im currently looking into other pipes for more top end, but will definitely keep the ct for woods and trails. I can say from experience thats its good from a stock displacement to a 350.

Your cylinder's porting may not support the "breathing characteristics" of a high RPM pipe.

You can sometimes coax a little more bottom end and midrange power from a radically ported cylinder by using a pipe that is designed for low end.........but installing a high RPM pipe on an cylinder that does not have much or has inadequate porting will result in an power band that is weak every where but will rev to the moon if you are going down hill and with a tail wind.

I've heard good things regarding the CT mid-range pipe for woods riding.

Have you looked at the ESR TRX5? I would believe that they have plenty of those in stock
