first time quad owner, but not completely new to the two strokes.
I picked up a mixed trx250r (87 engine, 89 frame) from a family member that traveled back home after his military stint was over. got it cheep but he had had just dropped 1,200 into a complete top and bottom rebuilt. aprox 2 hours into riding the motor just (seized) and water flowed from the weep hole like the Nile. I took it back to the shop (were he held the motor for a year putting in a new piston and rings). needles to say i was excited to get it back and put the R back together needles to say the shop accomplished nothing. fluid still flowed from the weep hole. Researching on this forum I discovered the real underlying problem.

the counter balance and its drive gear are mangled and the water pump bearing retainer is shattered.
Q? is the case cover still usable; is there a preventative for counter balance bearing failure from beaning this catastrophic?
