v force 3 cage. anyone have this happen before?

my 370 has been fighting me all year. Can't keep it running to save my life. Mat shearer has done nothing but excellent work to it but it just seems like a series of unfortunate events that are really starting to get frustrating. took the motor out saturday, started fine, idled like normal, went to make a pass and it died before i even clicked 2nd gear. pulled carburetor and off and saw that. bummer. anyone ever see that before?

Only on a reed that has had the dividers ground too thin.  I cannot tell by looking at the picture if the dividers have been modified.  Do you have the missing pieces or did the engine digest them?

i know mat shearer said he was gonna "port the reed cage". i have one piece that didn't get digested which is the main crossmember you see missing but the rest got digested along with a whole reed pedal. However, it doesn't look like much of anything was ground off of that piece

never seen that before.  on the vf3 ive seen, the dividers were very thin, except the main horizontal one but it was supporting other dividers so its probly best left alone. without knowing how brittle that plastic is i would be real nervous about grinding on them. besides theyre already pretty thin, i dont see anything to be gained by making them paper thin. im wondering if he just did alittle work on the insert piece and matched it real well to the intake boot and your dividers failed for another reason ?  even in a "best case scenario" i dont think theres much  to be gained in the reed cage so i cant imagine he would compromise your engine for half a horse power

now grinding some of the honda cages is a different matter. some of them you can gain nearly a whole reed petal worth of extra surface area by removing the dividers but obviously youll then need some special made reeds to account for the missing dividers
to much power is almost enough
