Well heres a video and a little race report from this weekends National Harescramble. I ditched the Smart Carb for this race about 3 hours before the start. I wasn't confident in the WOT for it just because race temps can get so high. Cory with APT is sending me another richer FMR to correct this issue. So i had all of an hour of jetting time on my 38mm A/S and it was only 50 degrees out. I got it pretty close and was slightly rich at WOT as you can hear in the video on the long straights, otherwise the bike ran great. I entered the A class which had 7 guys in it i think, a lot of them call it the Pro class, I don't consider it that, but hey, what ever works.
I always try to take it easy on the first lap of a harescramble because you dont know the track layout, and its tuff to go as fast as you can not knowing which why your going to go next. This video is only the first two laps. I may post another video of my last lap to show the speed that can be had when you know the track layout if theres enough interest. Im not sure how many people actually watch harescramble videos.
Race Report
Im not sure how you classify the holeshot, i was probably technically 4th, but ended up second out of the start of the race. It doesn't take me long to pass for first place and almost equally as quickly throw it away when I get hooked on a tree. I end up dropping back to 7th place due to the tree incident that takes me what seems like an eternity to get off the tree. I manage to pass my way back to first place within the next lap or so, but then get hooked by a vine in the middle of the path and have to untangle myself. This incident puts me back to 5th place. I manage to catch back up several times in the race, but I kept having small hang ups that kept me from getting to the front again.
Ultimately I DNF the race when a tie rod nut comes off and i loose control of my left front. It was impossible to continue racing when you cant steer. You will notice how tight the trails are back in the woods.
All and all Im very happy with the race. I proved i could run up front, and that I had the speed to stay up there if it wasn't for some issues. I plan on racing even more harescrambles next year and maybe even some GNCC events. One of the things im going to get next year is a AutoClutch for sure. This feature alone is worth a lot of time and speed in the trails.
ALSO!!! hang in there, the video does get some mud on it, but i clean it off so you can see after a few minutes of riding.
