You see that piece in the clutch cover still?
Its hard to tell but you will see some blue threadlocker around the outside edge of the metal piece he is talkin about.

Ok, sounds great. So do I have to use a sealant to seal the new metal piece?

If you look where the pencil is on my impeller shaft you can see a groove on it, it will catch my fingernail. Do you think I should replace that too?

That metal part did not come out easily, that blue sealant they used really locked it in there. I did put some small gouges in the clutch cover though, do you think I should take some fine sand paper and get the aluminum smooth and/or use some type of sealant. I was thinking some kind of permatex silicone type sealant.

The new seal comes with the blue sealer on it. You just want the sand any ridges you may have made taking the old one out. Usually we press them out from the other side in an arbor press without causing damage. Its a little tricky getting the new one in. Some use sockets to press in and others pull it together with a bolt and washers. WP shafts are real spendy. I would just touch that one up with 400 paper and hope it seals OK

Well parts should be here today or tomorrow, how long does that thread locker take to set before I can put coolant back in?

The thread locker does not set. It is permanent. Meaning it stays good from when it was made. When you take the old one out from 30 years ago it is the same as when they installed it at the factory. So you do not have to wait at all.

So the Yamaha and Honda seals are the same? That's what Toledo Honda said.

Any special tricks to putting the mechanical seal in without damaging it? I don't have a press.

Well we ended up going to my parents today to visit them and my dad has a hyd. press. We got the yamaha seal pressed in and the water pump put back together. We used some non hardening permatex form a gasket on the mech. seal just in case. I dont have it back on the R yet but I did fill it with water and blew in the hose end and it didnt leak so hopefully tomorrow I should have it running again.

Still have front tires to deal with yet and hopefully thats it for now.

Good to hear Scott, sounds like you'll be in good shape.
One more thing to check with the clutch basket install, is to check the clearance on the back of the basket where the crank drive gear spins the basket. Some aftermarket baskets like Hinsons, have a thicker radius on the back corner of the basket. With different years / gear thicknesses, and different aftermarket basket dimensions, its just a spot worth looking at before you put the cover on.
