Hey, I never had this happen before so it's alittle new. Well just finished my project. It's a 68 mm bore, wisco piston,  pro flow head, super stock reeds, or clutch basket and clutches, the carb is stock with 48 pilot and 160 main, stock is 48 and 158, uni air filter. Well it's got some power at bottom end and by the time the power band kicks in your shifting. But if you shift in power band then crack it again. Your staying on the rev. It's 13 38 stock gearing with 18" tires. Any ideas why it's so late.

has the cylinder been ported? what pipe is on it.   have you road  this bike before rebuilding it?

Fmf fatty no port and no new motor build. I've built plenty of 2 stroke so that shouldn't be the problem.

hard to say, but it sounds like its sluggish, meaning its running rich. I would jet down and read the plug color
my stock 88 has been jetted down to a 145 on a PJ carb

Stock is 158 right why would you have to jet further then that and I'll have to check plug again

my 88 was to fat with the stock 158, I guess honda jets them rich for the guys that will ride them at 20 degrees with out jetting them richer

Piston in BACKWARDS ? No joke....a buddy of mine bought an '87 and it hit really late too! We tore into her and found the Piston was in backwards ?

What is your Needle clip position set at ? Might be too low...try moving it up a notch

Your description of the problem is pretty vague. Take some close up pics of the engine so we can get a ballpark of what you're running.

Make sure you give us all the correct jetting and carb info. Is this a long rod (spacer plate?)? Compression test?

have you done a leak-down test.  engine will run different if you have a leak.
