Fmf, pro circuit vs other brands?
« on: September 10, 2013, 10:16:38 PM »
Hey guys been out of it for a few years

Our distributors have fmf and pc avail fast and cheap

Question is how do they compare to the sparks, duncan and esr that ive ran in the past??

I plan on running a 295 cyl or a esr310 kit

I rum a pc on my stock ported cylinder as well as a stock un-ported cylinder for MX and I can't complain. I've never ran any of the other pipes so I can't compare but I've managed to put the old R on the podium a few times.

My Arens currently has a pro circuit system on it, and the pipe is pretty well rounded.  The cylinder is a stock cylinder, 265 using spacer plate with trx-7 porting by ESR, fueled by a PWK 38.
Power seems to be more mid range.  You can tell when she is off the pipe and feel her get into the meat of the power, but its predictable power.  When I changed to the cr250 ignition it cleaned it up more and she still put power out off the pipe, but definitely woke up more when the revs get to where the pipe wants them.

I would go with the fmf over the pro circuit. But I would go with the ESR TRX5 pipe over both of them.

I'm curious how the TRX MX pipe compares to the TRX 5 pipe for MX. My PC pipe is def a mid range pipe. Nothing up top with decent bottomend with the ported cylinder.

We need to start a loaner program where people pay shipping to borrow pipes. I do this alot on the bass boat board i'm on with props and it works out well.

I'm up for that. I would love to try out a TRX5 pipe versus my sparks mx. Joe, personally I think you would find you would like several pipes better for your purpose than what you have.

You can tell by looking at the rear section in photos that the mx is more of brother to the 9 as the 7 is to the 5. The 5 and mx would have a different personality but you may love either one. It would be great if you could test all the pipes listed in the thread but finding the pipes to borrow could be difficult.

I have a CT national pipe at my house that is going on a CT350 I'm building for a friend. I may try swaping out pipes tonight to see how well it works.

I'm still trying to understand pipes and what makes them work. So, how does the rear section come into play when comparing the two pipes such as the MX and the TRX5? The time the sound way returns back to the cylinder?

Ryan,
you are correct and I would love to find the pipe that really makes my engine work but it's a costly mistake if it doesn't work well. I think you can't go wrong wiht the TRX5 pipe for an all around MX pipe. I think the Sparks is a better choice, just from what I read and heard but hard to find at a decent price.

I know they did a shootout on the Sparks MX and the TRX5 in the past and the Sparks was better. But that was also years ago, and ESR has tweaked the TRX5 several times since then.
