Anyone ever seen a anodized set of cases? want red ones
« on: September 29, 2013, 11:08:55 AM »
Doing a Puma build over the winter for the brother inlaw, he wants red cases and wants to powdercoat them, but I am a little conserned about them dulling from the sand and alcohol dripping on them.
So I thought about anodizing them, anybody ever seen it done?
Anyone looking for a great builder I highly recommend the following.
For CP products dealers I would recommend:
Arlan at LED(site sponsor), Pete Schemberger at Hybrid Engineering, Mat Shearer at Shearer Custom Pipes, Dennis Packard at Packard Racing, and Nate McCoy of McCoys Peformance.

Other great builders I also would recommend: Neil Prichard, Jerry Hall, Bubba Ramsey and James Dodge.

Never seen them. But I do know anodizing will fade the color, over time. It probably will be more expensive than powder also.

seams like the esr anodized heads hold up pretty well, but I do understand nothing last forever.

I painted mine with car paint. Basecoat clearcoat and they're holding up really well. They get gas on them and ive taken the motor out so many times and they still look good

I don't think you will have much luck anodizing cast parts. Most just turn out a gray color. I think you would be happier with a powder that is resistant to uv and gas..

I'll have to think about it to remember where I got it from, but theres an anodized spray can paint you can get, red, black, blue & yellow best as I can remember. It puts you in the mind of the candy color paint that you can see through. Many years ago building models, Hobby shops had what Testor's called transparent paints & man you spray it on the chrome parts, you got you some blinging razzle dazzle look from it.

I think it was Auto Zone where I bought spray can paint from, but I'm just guessing right now.
Maybe minihimers will turn loose my memory bank & it will come to me.

You have to be careful if you anodize your case's. they acid dip them before anodize. Your bearing sizes will change.
A normal callout is for .0003-.0005" penetration and .0003-.0005" buildup. You may endup with loose fitting bearings or ones that are too tight.  Also they have to types of anodize. "Show" and "hard". Any bright color will fade if out in the sun.

Bike is going to be a theme bike, going to be Speed Racers Mach 5  should be pretty cool with a white frame, plastics and tank, the hood will have the red M on it, the motors center cases will be red everything else will be polished.
