My dad had to one up me

Ever since I brought the 86 TRX250R home and my dad took it for a spin, I knew he had an itch to get something besides the Suzuki 4x4 that he currently owned. He asked me to look for Quadzillas for him many times, and I actually called a couple people, but I didn't think he would actually ever buy one. Well here it is in the garage and I'm still finding it a little hard to believe. Even harder to believe is the freaking deal he got on it.

That's actually my mom with all her hair tucked up in her hat. My dad was the one taking all the pictures. I think he called me 7 times today asking me about things he wanted to buy for it and things he wanted to do. I haven't heard him this wound up in years. I don't really feel he "one up'd" me by getting the Quadzilla, but since it has a 500cc motor in it, he thinks he did. I'd take a TRX250R over an LT500R any day of the week, but it sure is a nice looking quad.

Nice looking zilla, but that's the problem it's  suzuki that says it all. But he did get one hell of a deal on it thats for sure.

Well, my dad told her he either wanted this quad or a Harley and I don't think he honestly had any intention on buying a Harley. When that option was put out there she told him to get the quad. I sometimes think she misses the days that he and I used to go riding together as much as he and I do. Of course, after she heard him call me about 5 or 6 times to talk about things he wanted to buy, SHE ended up calling me and I got an ear full about, "Stop putting ideas into his head" and blah blah blah. I told her that I've been telling him since we looked at it that he didn't need to buy anything for it. Just ride it and enjoy it for now. Wait until the dead of winter when it's too cold to do much and maybe then do a couple things. All I would do is:
 
1: replace the FMF exhaust with a Paul Turner system
2: pull the a-arms, brake pedal, and shifter off to have them repainted the OEM silver
3: move the rear tires over to the aluminum rims the paddle tires are on
4: get OEM bumper and grab bars
5: replace all decals that aren't 100%

The thing runs so strong but a Paul Turner pipe is hands down better than the FMF that's on there now. The rest of those things I mentioned are cheap jobs to do. He keeps talking about completely stripping it down and reworking the entire quad so it looks like it just came off the showroom floor but I know who's going to end up doing the work.

That was just a stab a Jamie cause I know he had some Banshees at one point. We talked about getting a Banshee, but my dad didn't want something with 2 carbs, pipes, pistons, etc. I still say the Banshee has the sweetest sound of any two-stroke when you're on the pipe.

Banshees with toomey pipes sounded awesome and my nephew still wants one for some unknown reason. I think its because he started out riding them with me when he was old enough to hold on to my legs and the gas tank. It's all good man atleast your dad wanted to get one and ride with you again, my dad never did shit like that with us boys. And tells me I'm stupid for haging them now after my accident and just about loosing my leg and arm because of a flat landing on one at silver lake dunes.

I know they were some of the best sounding quads at the race track back in 1987- 88 when I raced. Not sure what exhaust those guys were running but I do remember hearing Toomeys were one of the most popular through the years.

It really is. My dad had to take a medical retirement from his job as a welder. After climbing in and out of military tanks for so many years and welding overhead, his neck and back were just wasted. He's been down and out for quite some time now and it's really cool to seem something bring so much excitement to him again. He even told me last night that he's finally got a reason to want to get out of the house and lose weight even though this thing has the power to drag his big @$$ around, lol. I just hope he takes it easy and remembers in the back of his mind that he isn't in his 30's because he used to be pretty fearless.

Nice find and it's cool that your Dad shows a interest in that stuff.  My Dad has always had wheelers,bikes,etc.  I always told myself I would buy one of these if the price and location was right.
