how does it look to have a clear powder over a polished surface?

is it hazy?

will it maintain a polished look over time?

anyone have pics of it done.

thanks

I put clear paint over chrome on my axle. It loses the shine. A good example to test is putting a chrome part in a ziploc plastic bag. You will see for yourself. You can just lay plastic over a chrome pipe for the same effect. I'm am not talking about saran wrap though, PC is much thicker.

I have seen clear anodizing of polished alum parts done in midget-sprint dirt track racing years ago. Held up very well and looked good. Not quite the same but very good.

I also remember a stronger Hard Annodizing but it was a grey color. Maybe they have a Hard Clear now days? I don't know any more about it then that. It sure made the polished parts finish last, was easy to clean and maintainance free like paint etc.

i work at a body shop where we did powdercoating up till recently and from what i saw over the years was that clear powder over polished parts ended up dull looking regular automotive clear will hold a high gloss but you have to use a special light acid wash (cant remember off the top of head what its called) to etch it enough for it to adhere good the auto clear does have a slight yellow look to it in the right light tho. i have seen anodized stuff that looks good after some pretty rough treatment and it would be way more durable than auto clear i just dont have any personel experience with it. hope this helps.

I don't know much about anodizing but doesn't the aluminum get etched from the anodizing process & wouldn't that dull it slightly?
