I really like how ESR focuses on the discontinued parts as opposed to reproducing parts that are readily available

I am running a spacer plate motor with an ESR top end, and my stock head stay does not fit due to the spacer plate.  What have you guys done to get around that issue?

I've used a smaller bolt and some fine tuning with a round file.

Yep, another hats off for ESR.

Only problem with me though, :nightmare: :ride: if I get one, I'll have to get four new 8mm bolts to replace the 3 5/16 bolts & lock nuts I had to use because of the threads stripped out on the stock OEM mount .

Gonna hijack this thread a little... When I got my r it was missing the head stay. Why would someone remove it? Is there a benefit to having it or not having it? My engine is completely stock, should I get a head stay or is it fine without?

I got my R 13 years ago and it has never had the headstay on it. It didn't have it when I bought it. I had always heard it would rev more freely without the head stay, and that it wasn't needed. I don't know if there was any actual truth to this or not, just never ended up getting one. Can any one answer this for sure?

It also serves to stabilize the frame from side to side. If you look at the mounting geometry the head stay triangulates the force the motor exerts on the frame. Lots say they don't need it. Some say Honda issued a newsflash in 1989 that it was not really needed. Some bolt it in without attaching to the motor. But I am with the group that says Honda put it there for a purpose. Not gonna second guess the engineers that built this work of art.
