gusset kits - pros/cons?
« on: December 03, 2013, 05:42:46 PM »
I got a supposed low hours 88 frame to start the build of a replacement for my 250r that was stolen.   These days I hardly ever get on a MX track, but it might occasionally happen.  For the most part I would be riding trails and the occasional dune trip.  The motor will be a CT310 procross.  Probably Elkas in the front and revalved/built OEM rear shock.

should I get the gusset kit?   Let me know your thoughts for or against.
Thanks!

Think of it as insurance. If your getting the frame bare why wouldn't you? How pissed would you be if you built it then you had cracks after a ride or two?

I think it depends on how much jumping you do.

Make sure you have someone who actually knows how to weld to weld them in.  you.ll read about guys complaining about the frame cracking beside the weld.  That happens because they weld the gussets in way too hot.  The frames are very thin and you want the machine set just hot enough to burn in the gussets and let the bead flow onto the frame tube.

You can also temper the welded area for a little extra insurance.
