Ok all, a while back I bought a used car 250 ignition from a member on here. (And this isn't about him or a bad sale, just so you all know)
Ok, so Jon brought spiritshine down for me to finish while he is off at his new job. So he wanted to here his new stroker pa motor roar, so Jon and I installed the cr ignition I have and nothing. I was told I forgot a ground from the coil to the frame or motor, so I made up a wire and installed it. No spark still. I will have pics of all tomorrow for yah but am I missing something or have a done something wrong.
Please help me so I can start Jon's motor for him. Here is my cell 269-362-2458, thanks all in advance.

I had a cut wire on the terminal that connects to the coil once. You couldn't tell it was broke until you pulled the little rubber boot/protector back.

Ok sorry all for no pics, I had some phone calls for help and with all the extra grounds I have no spark at all. I am going to be shipping it off to dave and he is gonna bench test it and see what is not working so I can get it all figured out ok.

Do you have an on/off switch hooked up? or push-off button? I remember something about the cr ignition being an always closed circuit versus a normally open circuit like the TRX's. Wonder if that might be an issue.

cr250/125 ign are Normally Open for the kill switch so un hooking the leads for the kill switch will allow it to run but not be shut off

Do you have all the mounting spots clean, like where the stator plate mounts to the adapter plate & where that plate mounts to the engine case. Where the coil mounts on the frame & where you have the ground wire mounted, are those places clean & free of PC or paint. Where the engine mounts in the frame, those mount places need to be clean as well, no PC or paint, because anywhere a piece of the system mounts you need real good contact so the system can make a full circle of contact. Any paint or PC, sand or wire brush it to bare metal & put some oil on it.

Where the stator mounts and all is clean, I don't think the motor mounts are clean though and where the coil mount is its not bare metal but where I did the grounds it was clean and clean bolts. The bike it is on is spiritshine and I really don't want to take the paint off of a bike that is not mine. I will be putting it on my walsh and trying it before I ship it to dave Rss396.

You got to have metal to metal contact, or the grounding current cant make a complete circle. Its like putting a new battery in you car, forget to hook up the ground cable, shut the hood & then the car wont start the next morning.

Neil I think what Jamie is saying is he has run a ground wire from the coil to the engine, so technically it does not hurt to have paint on the mounting points of the coil since it is grounded with the ground wire, but it never hurts to have more than one ground path

Now I will say this Jamie I have seen people crimp electrical terminals on a wire and have a bad connection because they have pushed the wire to far in and the outer wire cover insulates the wire from the terminal, so make sure the ground wire you made is good
