I don't like the short boots. I only use shin high boots. I want hinged boots because I hate how long it takes to break in. I figure, you get what you pay for.

How do the sg10s fit? Are they true to size? Like shoe sizes?

Josh, sorry to throw another wrench into the works....I love my Gaerne Balance oiled boots.  gummed cleated soles really work well when of the bike (trail rider).  no break in required at all.  you can literally wear them all day long.  true to size.

Some of my racing buddies have the Gaerne boots with the pivot and they love them. I think this will eventually be the standard for riding boots. Can't believe it too this long really.

Joe thanks for the input. I always felt  Gaerne was one of the higher end boots that doesn't get recognised. I did a quick search on the oiled boots and came across some good input: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=669864

I like what was said about the Garden oils but I think I want something a little more stiff. Still its a  contender on my list.

The thing that really sucks for me is, I would like to try something on before I buy. I don't think any of my local dealers sell Gaernes. That was my down fall with the sidis I bought. I bought them online without trying first. I'm so disappointed with the sidis. I have always wanted a pair.

I can get the fox boots pictured above locally. I just don't want to pay what they cost. 1/2 of what I'm paying for is the brand name. I'm already cool as is. I don't need fox boots to show everyone I'm cool:p

I have sg10's as well. Absolutely love these boots. Like Sam said, these things are broken in in no time. Well worth the money!

I always loved the look of these but how does the leather hold up after a season or two of riding?

Its said that typical boot leather is 2.5mm the gaerne oils are 3.2mm thick. And a very high grade of leather. The leather is treated so the boot is 100% water proof. I've been reading up on these and it looks like the average life span is about 5 years and over

If you do decide to go with the Fox boots, I can tell you that the F3 boots run about 2 sizes small. I wear a 9 in women's shoes and had to get a men's 9 in the Fox boots (should have been a men's 7). The guy that ordered them said he had to order 2 sizes up too. I really like them (I recently had them resoled) and didn't have to break them in much...I have never tried the hinged boots.
