Carb and reed spacers
« on: March 31, 2014, 07:12:13 PM »
I have an 86 engine with an 89 crank so I have the spacer plate under the jug... I just got a new set of Vforce 3 reeds and a Keihn 38 airstryker carb.  I have been told previously that I should use a reed spacer with the Vforce reeds.  Reassembling everything right now and the problem I'm having is that with using the crank shaft/jug spacer and larger carb, the carb is almost touching the outside of the frame near the rear shock.  If I add the reed spacer, the carb is jammed up against the side of the frame.  I can make everything work without using the reed spacer, but will it be a problem if I don't use the reed spacer?  I'm guessing that the aftermarket reeds sit farther into the jug and need to be moved out a bit, or is that not correct?
Thanks

I have never ran reed spacers unless I actually needed space not for performance. I think you would be fine e without the spacer.

I had the same issue with my Laeger....had to remove the Reed spacer to get the carb to clear the frame. It runs great without it! :)

have you put the cage in the cylinder and checked how far in they sit ?  that would be my first step. it might run better with them farther back but then again it might not. but if the carb wont fit then you dont have much choice but to leave the spacer out.

Took the spacer out and everything seems to line up with a bit of a struggle.  There was no way that it was going to work with the reed spacer in there.  Doesnt appear to be any problem with not using the spacer with the Vforce 3 reeds.  Was told by a member on the other site that the spacer was required on a stock jug...
