Any of you fellow R lovers into old trucks??
« on: April 02, 2014, 04:42:46 PM »
I bought my '78 K-10 recently, (it's the same year as me;))

It will be a summer only truck for me, and used for cruising and pulling my 18' wheeler trailer for camping trips while my '06 Silverado hauls the camper

It came from TX in may of 2012 and the TX title I got with it stated it came from Tuscon AZ before that.

She is a solid old survivor that already has had alot of good work done to it. The main things left to do are a nice paintjob and to finish the interior.

Here is how she sat when I bought it:
-GM 12 bolt rear with new Richmond 3.83 gears and locker
-Dana 44 front axle
-Freshly rebuilt 4 speed manual with reciepts
-350ci with cam, Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock carb
-full length headers, true duals with cherry bombs
-All new Painless full chassis wiring kit
-MM aftermarket hub lockouts
-4" lift
-35" BFG's

Here is how it looked when I bought it.

I have made some changes and here is the only pic I have of what I have done to this point.
-I added an OEM grille and 73-73 front marker/turns. Only 2 years they were amber.
-Just last night I replaced the black painted rear bumper with a very nice chrome diamond plate step bumper.

Things I will be doing soon:
-I have another bumper lined up for the front end, it is an OEM chrome with the vertical bumper gaurds.
-Also have a visor with marker lights that will be painted black an installed

When the weather gets warm enough here to paint:
-Going to sand, prime and paint the bottom 8-10" of the body with roll-on bedliner for looks and protection
-Painting the grille semi-gloss black, and the bowtie and 350 badge will be Ford blue.

Ultimately in a few years when I can afford it, the whole truck will get a professional paint job. It's going to be a dark candy-apple red with black rally stripes up the hood, over the cab and down the tailgate.

Any other ideas suggestions??

And if you have an old truck feel free to show n' tell! :)

Yep, I've got a '77 GMC that I've owned since 1980. Drove it all through high school, part of college, on and off ever since. It was doing daily driver duties from 2009 to 2012, then got parked in winter of 2012 for a few major (well time consuming) repairs. Just put it back on the road again last week and have been doing the "awe yah, I need to fix that" or "oh yeah, that quite working before I parked it".

The truck started life out as a C-15, plan-jane repo from the credit union my dad belonged to. It had a dent in the door, 60K miles on it and fresh from AZ- buy out price: $1600. I drove it from 1984 through 2003 as a 2wd and always wanted it to be a 4x4. I even researched what it would take to convert it. Then in 2003, a friend happened to pick up all the needed items to do the conversion, then decided it was too much of a project for him and sold all the parts to me. Now the truck is a 3/4Ton 4x4 with 4" lift springs, a full float 14-bolt rear and corporate 10-bolt front. Only a set of 33's for me though.

Next on the list for it is the 3rd time around body restoration. I'm down to the only original sheel metal is the cab. Everything else has been repalced a couple of times. below is a pic of it right after the 4x4 conversion. Now it is just rustier, and the grille is busted from a deer hit back in 2012. I do have a replacement grille on its way from SC for it.

Nice trucks guys.

86rider: thats cool you have kept that old truck around for so many years!

Switchrider: seeing your '73 with the chrome trim around the front marker/turns makes me want to track down a set for mine! I did score some tail light trim from my father in law I forgot to mention. That chrome trim really adds a nice touch.

You guys have some cool looking trucks. you just can't go wrong with old chevy's. My dad bought this 70 new in late 69. It sat in our barn for about 6 years & he gave it to me for a daily driver in 91 just after I turned 16. Between 92-93 we did a full body off father/son restoration on it. It ain't a daily driver no more. Original 350/350 mildly built with around 350hp, 12 bolt 3.73, stage 2 shift kit & 2500 stall.

Here is my 1969 c/10. I bought it when I was 15 and it's been my project ever since then. A mild 355ci, th350 with 2500 stall, and I relocated the fuel tank under the bed. Me and a buddy built the engine ourselves last spring .

A little something different from all the Chevrolets in here....
This is my 1973 Ford Courier:
My 250r barely fits in here.

I need to get some current pics... these are from last year. It now has chrome mirrors, and 1973 Maryland tags on it.

It's so funny to think of these as "Old Trucks". To me they're still just standard trucks, the definition of "old" is something from the 50s/60s era.

A friend (loose term) had a Ford Tempo that didn't run, and he was too lazy to work on it so it sat in his yard for a year. When I learned about it, a six pack later I was the proud new owner of a Ford Tempo. Twenty bucks and a day later, I was the proud owner of a running Ford Tempo.

I found an ad on craigslist, a guy had bought this truck a week before looking to fix it, but his landlord was having financial troubles and evicted him, so he was looking to sell this truck and buy a small car to move to San Francisco. A handshake and a couple signatures later, I had this baby. I did spend a few hundred fixing up a bunch of little issues on the Tempo, so I guess you could say I'm into this truck about $250.

Who was ford working with on those couriers?  Mazda?
I think it was dodge/mittsubishi, chevy/isuzu, ford/mazda for minitrucks.

That is correct. It's basically a Mazda B1800 with a mini F150 grill on it.

I dont really consider any of mine old, but my daily driver since 06 is a 92 Dodge with a hot rod Cummins.  I just redid the suspension with custom springs, hangers, air bags, 37" tires and weld wheels.  If we're counting Jeeps as trucks, I have some of them too.  It's a bad picture of the 83 Cj7.  I drove it daily from 96 when was in high school until probably 03 when I took it to he bare frame for a 2 year build. It has a 360, 4spd, 4.88 gears, and 36" swampers on weld wheels.  The 87 Grand Wagoneer is a back up daily driver and the one that fits the car seat the best.  It has 35" tires, and I'm looking for some weld wheels for it.

There are some nice trucks posted here.  I'm a mopar and amc/jeep fan, but I really do like pre 88 GM trucks.  I had a couplesquare body's, a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 longbed, and a 71 blazer.  None were nice enough to post though.
