I describe things very accurately on Ebay and usually get less than it's worth because I do so. Almost to the point it's not worth selling.

if he bought it used from someone else then how can he claim its in good shape if he didnt pop it open and verify ?   im thinking he probly knew it had issues and wanted to dump it on someone else then play stupid and act like he didnt know of any problems. ive bought used crap before and they always play stupid when you confront them about it. it probly sat uncoved for a while outside or in a garage and birds made nest and put the gravel in there. how the cracks got there is hard to say. had many old used bikes and cracked cases werent part of the normal wear and tear.

IMO if something is gonna be sold as a good bottom end, then it should have at least been split and inspected by the seller.

^^ Ageed! The seller cannot claim it's good, if he doesn't know! It sounds, a little misleading.

It's hard to see in the pics but just about all the gears have stress marks on the teeth. you can see on the one in the upper left some sand or something must of got in between the teeth and left big marks in it.

I thought the cases were in good shape but I just found two cracks in the back from the swingarm

When you see the face of the teeth with pitting like 5th gear in the upper left, it is an indication the gear has a lot of miles under a heavy load or the metallurgy was not up to spec.

I bought a bottom end off a guy in the fall. It had a hot rods crank all new bearings seals and OEM gaskets Yukon gears new counterbalancer good cases etc.. Supposedly just needed a top end and it was good to go.

The seller made some bold false claims that highly effect the value. No question, the buyer got ripped off.

i concur.  the pitting is evidence of microscopic fracturing.

yes but what was the price??? if seller charged top dollar then you would expect top quality, but if it was an average price for a used bottom end then expect problems

you usually get what you pay for....this bottom end was no different from the beat $300-$400 bottom ends out there....

my question is what was the final price?? that tells the hole story if it was a rip off or  cheap price for a cheap product,

I agree its in tough shape, but that what to expect for a few hundred bucks, regardless of what the person selling says it has or is worth.

Price????????

maybe the gears were made from a bad batch of steel. its just as likely that they grinded up a chunk of metal. either way it doesnt matter. you cant claim something is in good shape unless its poped open and verified , which wasnt done

The seller gave me this big story about how he had just built the motor with all new Yukon gears new counterbalancer perfect cases new hot rods crank etc he ran a 265 top end on it for a little while then removed it. I paid over 600 for it because it was supposed to be a bolt in and go motor and I know yukons are getting hard to find.. I'll be making some more attempts at contacting him. How serious do you guys think I should get about getting some type of reimbursement? It's been a while since the deal went down so it might be hard to get ahold of this punk.

ya that's way too high a price.... but as you said it was last fall, so maybe 6 or 7 months since you bought it?
that makes things tough, if he was a decent person he would honor the original deal, but I doubt you have any recourse in this situation because of the amount of time

Allison, I think realistically 6-7 months is quite a long time after the fact to seek some kind of reimbursement. I'm not saying you are being dishonest at all, but would you feel like you owed a buyer some money back if he came back to you 6 months later with problems?

Totally different story if you had discovered the problems a few days after the deal went down...

I think it's time to bump this thread back up! I let it go after not being able to contact the seller. I thought from his posts that he was getting out of the R game and we wouldn't have to worry about him anymore.. Figured I would cut my losses but I see he's back now and making some bold statements about another member being dishonest. Just a heads up for the good guys in here. I don't want to see anyone else get burned the way I did! Evan Naber Aintsokoolaid or whatever is the guy
