TORN Round 3 Crafton

This section looked a bit slow so I thought I'd post a bit in here if no one minds.
Just got done with my 3rd race of the season. First year on a 250R. 4th year racing this series. Got 2nd overall in the points championship last year in my class aboard a TRX450R. I use to have a 250R about 5 years ago and always thought it'd be fun to race one but never really had the chance. Well, got an offer on the 450 I couldn't refuse and my buddy just happened to have a POS laying around that needed some serious attention. So I bought it and 3 weeks later made it to the first race. Got 2nd to last in that one. Way off the pace. Swapped out suspension with my other '87 TRX250R/CR500 hybrid and that helped out a good bit. Added a Boysen RAD valve and went from a 34mm PJ carb to a 38mm PJ. 2nd race got 5th but still about a minute off the pace and really got wore out bad. So this race I changed up my workout routine a bit and raised the seat height 1.5" and ran a set of shortened bars and a steering stabalizer that actually worked. That setup landed me 3rd place last weekend. And I was only 10-20 seconds a lap behind 2nd. That's on a stock bore, non-ported cylinder. I was hoping between rounds to send it off and have it ported by no one can get it in in time before my next race. Sucks but I did end up scoring a 310 cylinder and head that I may put on and try out next round. That should even things up a bit.
Anyway, next TORN (Texas Off-Road Nationals) race is May 10th and 11th in Crafton, TX if anyone is in the area and wants to have a bit of fun. It's a good time. A good Christian-based family runs the series and they are super people and all the racers are like a big family. Bikes and quads race Saturday. UTV's and mini's race Sunday. The UTV's are a sight to see in themselves. Too bad I can't afford one. lol
Signing off for now...

Thats cool you are hanging in there and tuning the bike and getting faster, rather than giving up and going back to a 450! The 310 cylinder if setup for your style riding will be a huge improvement and will make the bike a contender for sure.
Anyone looking for a great builder I highly recommend the following.
For CP products dealers I would recommend:
Arlan at LED(site sponsor), Pete Schemberger at Hybrid Engineering, Mat Shearer at Shearer Custom Pipes, Dennis Packard at Packard Racing, and Nate McCoy of McCoys Peformance.

Other great builders I also would recommend: Neil Prichard, Jerry Hall, Bubba Ramsey and James Dodge.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. Like trail riding...but real fast and not having to worry about someone going the wrong direction and running into you. lol
