Well my Smartcarb arrived this week and only have good to report. The carb is being used on a Mx ported ESR 350 cylinder with race fuel dome . Installation was trouble free ,only issues I ran into was the need for longer bolt for the intake side clamp and I had to take all the adjustment I had in the throttle cable to get the slide to close all the way. I followed there instructions on initial start up and the bike fired on the 5th kick on choke.
I let it warm up and took for a quick run around the house and it felt good but no room to open it up. Today I took it to my riding spot and without choke it fired on first kick and idled fine. After riding for a short while it was rich in the mid range so I started adjusting the mixture clicker which affects idle to midrange. My carb was shipped preadjusted 36 clicks from full rich. So from that point I started leaning the mixture adjustment a couple clicks at a time.
The only bad part was on a ATC you can't reach the clicker with the tank on. I left all the bolts out of the tank so I could just raise the tank up and rotate the clicker a couple clicks leaner each time. The clicker works by holding the throttle wide open which raises the slide to the top and you push down on the clicker and engage the adjuster on the metering rod.
I ended up with 55 clicks from fuel rich. The bike would fire on the first kick every time which was an improvement over my 40.5 Keihin. There seem to be a power increase over the entire power band very crisp throttle response ,great bottom end hit and hard pull to top end. The engine seems to even sound different . I checked the plug several times and it had nice coloring even after several hours of riding. At this point I'm very pleased.
