Author Topic: Durablue sprocket hub... anybody ever break one? (Read 5245 times)

I had a pretty lousy end to my day of riding Saturday.
Heading down the road, about 100 yards from my truck, my Durablue axle hub that holds the rear sprocket to the axle broke. I don't know if it vibrated the bolts lose, and that caused it to break or what, but one of the ears broke off. This threw the chain, breaking the bottom of the shifter area on the LH case. I think I can weld it back together (unless I can find a replacement cheap... see my WTB ad! http://trx250r.org/threads/3408-WTB-Undamaged-LH-case?goto=newpost) as I collected most of the pieces but it's going to be a pain.

This ever happen to anybody else?

Ouch, plenty of broken cases from chains on here, not sure on the durablue axle hub though. To my knowledge they are lock nuts and ive never had one come loose on me(heck i can barely break em loose when changing sprockets)

They were/are locknuts on the sprocket. I only have the one that's still attached to the broken ear through the sprocket. The rest are gone (assume broken and shot away?)

Yes.
I'll take a picture tonight... it's an odd (and potentially expensive) failure.
Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a known issue with the Durablue hub.

Yeah my durablue is holding up great. Ive had it 3 seasons, and it was definitely used when i bought it

When I got my first 400 I was haulin azz up the hill. When I got to the top I did not slow down. Became airborne for what seemed like eternity and when I came down I felt a big snap. Looked around the bike and did not see anything broken. A few dune trips later I was at the bottom of the hill prepare for a race to the top. When I took off, the motor spun but the bike went no where. Looked at the sprocket hub. Alll four ears were broken and my sprocket, still connected, was bent into a U shape. The chain obviously had come off and wedged itself into the case saver. After looking closely at the sprocket hub I could see where 2 were broken from the airborne experience and the third cracked half way. So there was a fresh crack/break on the third and the fourth broke all the way. I now buy the steel dura-blue sprocket hubs

I too have the steel hub.

Tony- i too had a similiar situation with this same durablue w/steel hub. I jumped, landed hard, and it ripped 6 of 14 teeth off the front sprocket, a few off the rear, blew the bearing behind the sprocket into peices, and obviously that seal was destroyed too. That was the end of that ride.... Moral of the story is the steel hub withstood it all!

I broke all the fingers off of a durablue sprocket hub. Come to find out 2 of the sprocket bolts were loose. Cost me a state championship in XC.

My durablue has held up great for 5 years, but I did break a lonestar on my kfx. In lonestars defense, I had regular nuts on it, and believe they loosened up.

Mine was the aluminum version.... wasn't aware there is a steel option.
I'll definately be ordering that one as a replacement.

I believe durablue is the only company to make a steel hub for the R. Bad thing about it is you also have to use a durablue Axel. The splines are different then say, a lonestar Axel.

Correct, my wifes hub is alluminum on her lonestar, and they do not mix which i found out after getting them both refinished lol. I almost shit a brick.

I had this happen to me last year, luckily I had a case saver and it did it's job.

Jamie and I came to the conclusion that my chain was to loose and I constant dumping the clutch and the slack eventually broke the hub. Thought I blew out 2nd at first. Replaced with a steel one and haven't had an issue since, and a tighter chain.
