Author Topic: Removing rubber from shift lever?? (Read 4151 times)

Has anyone had any luck removing the rubber from the shift lever without damaging it? I have a near mint rubber on a crappy lever and a near mint lever with a crappy rubber on it. You can see my dilemma.. I was thinking a little lube and some heat from heat gun but I thought I'd ask if anyone had a easy solution or some success. Thanks in advance, Damon.

I'd use a thin flat head screw driver to pry it up a tad and spray some lube under it and try pulling it off then.. If that does work I'd bust out the heat gun as you mentioned. Only other way I can think of is to cut the "nub" off the front of the lever but the above should work.

If I remember correctly they are only like 2 or $3 last time I ordered a new OEM one... so it's not a wallet killer to buy a new one...

Thats right, cut it off with a utility knife and put the new one on. I have used soapy hot water to loosen them up. A screwdriver sometimes works or gouges your finger/wrist. I have a new one for you Damon. They are easy to go on but a bitch to take off.

I agree they are a bear to remove and not worth the fuss and damage caused trying to salvage.

Well crap! I thought they were discontinued based on a few prices I saw on the ol' internet.. I just added 4 to my Service Honda shopping cart. Thanks for the input guys..

I've never seen OEM Honda parts come in a zip lock bag.

Well your not vip. And you don't receive special and exclusive services directly from Honda. Honda only sends their a-1 parts via zip lock bags. Duh!!!!

got it Sir! im just a 2nd rate consumer that lives on a rock in the middle of the ocean. my Honda dealer only give me parts with a red sticker on it the says HONDA genuine parts. I wish my parts came in a zip lock bag. that must mean the parts are extra fresh!
