Thought I would post a couple pics of some Hot Rod +4mm cranks I welded to increase the odds of no problems with the Tins giving us problems.
This was the first time I have welded the tins on a crank, I have always had them done. I made a fixture to hold the tins tight while welding and to provide a heat sink to not over heat the crank halves.
I also made a fixture for the tig gun to help make it easier to weld in a circle.

I think they came out pretty good for my first few cranks

Anyone looking for a great builder I highly recommend the following.
For CP products dealers I would recommend:
Arlan at LED(site sponsor), Pete Schemberger at Hybrid Engineering, Mat Shearer at Shearer Custom Pipes, Dennis Packard at Packard Racing, and Nate McCoy of McCoys Peformance.

Other great builders I also would recommend: Neil Prichard, Jerry Hall, Bubba Ramsey and James Dodge.

Very well done, Dave. I know from personal experience that it is not terribly easy to tig and it turn out  nice and uniform. Looks good.

thanks, it would look better if you did not have to stop and let it cool some before moving to another area of the crank to weld, then the last weld when you connect the beads will sometimes pop on you from expanded gases in the tins trying to escape.

No rebalance needed I only used about 1/10 of a gram per inch of weld. If that is done evenly then nothing has changed now obviously it's not perfectly even but since the amount is so small it will not make any difference.

you have to remember that nether Honda or HotRod dynamically balances there cranks.

They look great.  Every now and then I get a bead that pretty, but not enough constancy to go all the way around a crank.  Curves are tough to keep the correct angle.

Do you have pictures of these?

What about the other side of the tins, the inner side, is there a need to weld there as well?
