What reeds do I have?? Steel?
« on: June 06, 2014, 08:12:08 PM »
Pulled these out of an 85 motor.  Never seen steel reed pedals before.  Should I use these or get different ones?  Kind of a stock budget rebuild. Thanks

You have OEM reeds.  I don't know what type of riding you do or budget but the first performance mods I always did on a stock engine were - pipe, reeds, head, and carb.

One of my co workers picked up an 86 trx with an 85 atc motor in it.  Just going through a few things.  Trying to convert him from his DS450 onto a simpler and better riding quad.  He just wants the motor to be reliable and rideable for now.  Might make performance mods in the future but for now it rolls as he bought it.

There is one good reason not to use them and that is when they break, they can do damage to the motor .Back in the 80s I had the whole reed break off and go through the motor,it damaged the jug close to the exhaust port and did not have much effect on performance

that thought did cross my mind.  He will probably put v force or a rad valve in it down the road.
