Does OEM parts really hold any value ?
« on: June 11, 2014, 10:36:09 AM »
I figure I make a thread on the site ,just to keep things flowing

My question is do OEM parts hold any value ,with so many out there you would figure there is ton of oem still out there ,just sitting on parts bikes or rollers

I bring this up because I have everything from shifters ,brake pedals ,fender stays ,seat stays ,seat pans ,tool boxs ,tool sets ,chain guards to OEM bumpers ,down to OEM engine bolts ,I probably have enough of those to build a whole motor....lol
Don't forget intake manifolds and air boots got plenty of those aswill

Or is everything scrap now a days with all the aftermarket out there especially companies making everything from pegs to intakes and others making motor components to billet parts

Only OEM parts I put value on is transmissions. The OEM stuff is worth more to ME due to nostalgia reasons either.  I think I've replaced almost everything on my bike anyways. If I am not using it or about to, off it goes.

Yes, the OEM parts do have a value to them. There are a lot of guys doing OE restorations that look for original parts to use and even restore the orignal part vs. buying reproduction. A lot of the OEM parts for our machines have been discontinued by Honda, so even though many are using after-market frames and engines on this site, sometimes it's the little bushings, bolts or brackets needed that are OEM only, nobody out there reproducing some of that small stuff. So rather than scrap any of the stuff you have, go to the for sale section and list the stuff up and you might be surprised how much of it sells!

All the one of parts like brake pedal with the spring and chain guards are always sought after. Things like OEM reeds and intake are junk to most of use. I must have at least 4 sets of air snorkels. I would never use them but I don't through them away.

Its funny this thread was started because I have been trying to sell the last remaining OEM parts on .net and exriders site and tried to reach out on others here needing OEM parts but its been real slow for like the past yr. Im hoping that they still hold value because I do have remaining OEM parts I'd like to unload.

In my experience with having and selling some trx or atc the stuff that holds value are stock wheels and tires, plastic, seats, handlebars, grab bar, OEM stickers in bags, those are just a few items and of course condition is EVERYTHING!
Example I am always looking for 87 trx 250r seats that say fourtrax. I get calls from people calling me they have one for sale. So pic is sent and under pic they text asking $200 for a torn seat or a small tear on seat or fourtrax wording is fading. Those are really rare and hard to find seats in good condition and I don't have an issue paying top dollar for one, but so many offer things or parts that are junk. The other more expensive seats are the 88-89 trx 250r those are priceless. So priceless I took my OEM seats off and bought complete seats so no damage occurs to mine.
I hope this helps.

I agree, there is still value in OEM parts..particularly body parts, and particularly if the parts are NOS still in the package.

Now, I was not referring to in my post that if you list up the OEM part for sale, you were going to get bombarded with calls for the stuff. It all depends on who is doing what right now in the way of a restoration, or in my case, what part broke on the last trail ride on my mostly stock R! Personally, I cringe whenever I read or hear of someone "scrapping" any 250R parts, because to me, they all have some value to them if they are still useable parts. Especially since I cannot get every part from a Honda dealer any more.
