Standard travel +2 shock upgrade options
« on: July 12, 2014, 08:34:14 PM »
I'm making some changes to and rebuilding my 88 trx250r, adding standard travel +2 arms and want to upgrade the shocks along with it. I have some old worn out works triple rates that are in pretty rough shape, would need rebuilt, revalved, painted, polished etc, I figure I would probably have $400 or more getting all that done.  Is there a better option?

I see works steelers for around $510 and elka stage 1 for $600, would I still need to get these revalved or could I get them set up for that price?

I don't really want to spend much more than that.

And as for reservoirs, I would prefer a piggyback type.  Are there other options out there using 450 shocks or anything that would be worth looking into?

I see Maultech is selling the hls's now. Sounds like the 450 shocks would run $600-$700 hundred all in.

For some reason I thought I read on Gt thunder site that HLS was no more. I will look into that, thank you.

I had 450r shocks on +2 and the front sat higher and were stiff. I bought them for 150$ and looked into getting them redone, 500$ more, then found some 450r shocks that were setup up for a 250r.  Then I found some custom axis dual rate for 250$ set close to my weight. They are awesome. The hls essentials are a great shock at a great price. Friend runs them on a 400ex and is close to my weight. Similar to my axis.  I hope they still are making them, my next set was going to be the HLS elites...

Also in my opinion, if you get a good shock builder to set up your shocks and readjust them for you to get them just right you don't need adjustable shocks unless you are a racers. Me, I would just get them out of whack, rather have someone who knows mess with them.

HLS suspension, to a certain extent, is also no more. Andy will still be selling replacement parts for them for a while. They are being rebranded and setup by Maul Tech and will now be called GT Suspension.

Try a site sponser Schmidty racing.  I got a front set of Works with external res and a stock rear shock done this spring, setup for +2 fronts and for my weight.  Just got out to try them last week and they are great.  I would recommend his work to anyone
