Author Topic: Left crank seal installation tool? (Read 4095 times)

What do you guys use to install the left crank seal if the engine is still together? You can't use a regular socket the same size as the crank seal as it will not clear the crank shaft. I thought i would ask before going and making a tool.

That one didn't take too much effort to install last time I did one. I just pushed it most of the way with my fingers and tapped it in lightly with a brass punch. It is supposed to be installed 1/4" past flush with the case.

I considered this approach as well. Did you freeze the seal first to shrink it or no?

I didn't have to. It was a hot rods seal so that could have made a difference.

I always install mine prior to installing the crank. I get it on there flush with the case(using heat + freezing + big socket). Then let the stator push it in the rest of the way

Also, the Tusk crank puller I use can push the seal flush, if I didn't feel like using a socket

I would be concerned with the stator rubbing on the seal with that method.

I always put mine in flush and let the stator push it in the rest of the way. The oem stator backing plate has 3 "fingers" that will seat it for you. IDK abt a cr250 ign tho.

Ok, I was thinking flywheel (spinning) not stator (stationary). I just did what the manual said and installed it 1/4" deep. I can see now how either method would be fine.

That is probably why the seal can fit somewhat loose in the case, because the stator holds it in.
