Hey guys, after 4+ months of searching I finally found what I was looking for. My wife, 2 yr old son and I are getting ready for a move to Colorado in the next 3-6 months so I wanted to get something before the move as the used market here seems to be slightly better than in Colorado, which makes since considering the difference in the cost of living. To give a quick intro, after college I married and joined the military, after a year of hell I made it in to my spec ops unit, but unfortunately was injured during a training exercise and eventually was medically discharged. Sitting behind my desk at my civilian job was killing my soul, after just a few months out I bought a 400ex and started riding again after 8 years of not riding. The 400ex was fun but I love the 2 strokes, love the heritage, and needed something more (my desk job is still boring). Glad to officially be apart of the club. Looking forward to working on this project once I get settled in Colorado later this year. My 1988 250r '86 or '87 oem plastics.

Welcome to the forum. Got a great bunch of helpers here if you have any questions on repair or maintenance. 88 is the best year cosmetically in my book. But since plastics are scarce you have to mix and match.

I actually have an oem rear fender in the 1988 red. Hopefully I can find the matching red fronts one day. I do have a question......I believe this has 450r spindles on it, and the previous owner pointed out they should be changed. As you can see there's only a few threads holding the top a arm because of the angle of these incorrectly fitting spindles. Can you tell from these pics if these are 250r hubs? I've read you can use 400ex spindles but that you have to then use 400ex brake calipers, is that correct? Basically, I want to buy 250r spindles if I can to fix this problem. What do yall consider the best solution to this problem?

Other than that I just want to adjust the shocks so that the quad sits a bit higher. I'm 6'5" and this thing feels like I'm sitting on the ground.

Great, thanks man. Found some nice '88 hubs already, any advice on where to locate some 88 spindles? Also, can the current brake calipers be run with '88 spindles/hubs/rotors, or will I need 400 or '88 calipers too?

I like the idea of going with all '88 stuff. EBay is easy to find these parts. You mentioned the calipers are the same all 4 years, will any year spindle also work with the '88 hubs, or do I need 88/89 spindles?

Was able to get everything one eBay for a reasonable price. This should get me fixed up, sitting higher and straighter. Looking forward to wrechin' on her for the first time. Thanks again for the help, a wealth of knowledge.

I've ordered '88 spindles, hubs and rotors, and calipers. One of my tie rods is also slightly bent so I'm going to replace the tie rods and ends. I have full flight +2 +1 a arms.

Any suggestions of brand of tie rods w/ ends? I've only bought tusk in the past, they seem decent.
