Need some advice.......
« on: September 25, 2014, 10:13:48 PM »
So I haven't been around the R scene for quite a while. I pop in from time to time but not usually more than once every couple of months or so. I still have a garage full of quads but the last time they were ridden was back in 2010. Like nearly everyone in the country, I got hit with the destruction of a crap economy. I went from $150 k a year living the dream to unemployed for a year and now I make half of what I used to. I still have ALL of my toys but I can't afford to use them. Toy hauler needs work, Ford 6.0 Diesel (blown up), Quads all need something or another. Every time when I get the finances close to turning a corner, BAAM!!! Life happens again. I have been holding onto my heritage for dear life. I grew up on 3 wheelers dirt bikes and quads. It took me a very long time to acquire my perfect bike and once I finally was able to get everything I wanted, the freakin bottom of the world falls out.

So here is my dilemma, I have two 250r's.

One is an 89 chassis with an 86 engine. I built this bike from the ground up Chrome, powder coat, and polished. I was building it for my mother and things got ugly between her and I so I never finished it. It sits about 90% done. I have a LOT of time and hard work in this bike, I polished the OEM 89 swingarm to show quality. Anyone who has done a ground up knows how painstakingly difficult it is to make it perfect.

Bike #2 is my baby. It is a 1994 Laeger Protrax. 1st owned by Mike Mierou and raced in the Mickey Thompson circuit, then went to Jason Troxell, and I bought it back in 06. This bike has everything under the sun that I can throw at and then some.

I need to let one of these go for the sake of the others but I just can't choose...... It's like deciding which of kids gets to live.

The second thing is that no one has money anymore. I need to get a fair price but I won't part these bikes out.

Argggh!!!! What do I do? What do I do?

Any thoughts out there ??????????????????????????????????

Post pics. Depends what you're wanting. I'd say the laeger will obviously bring more money, whether it brings the mount you want I have no idea. I'd personally keep the laeger.

I have the same dilemma. Purchased a stock 88 for $4500 back in 2000. Same goes for a few others I have. You either have to hold on to them hoping the price goes back up of sell for 1/2 of what you want. No easy button here!

i have a garage full of bikes, and am living the dream at half the yearly salary you are currently making. i say sell the "toy hauler" or trade it for a regular open air trailer and another bike, finish your 90% done bike and take two friends to the dunes and have fun. life is too short to let money problems get you down. some people are so poor, all they have is money.

Yea, I know, I figured I'd get at least a WTF about being broke and making $78K a year.

Warning to all....... STAY OUT OF CALIFORNIA !!!!  It costs too damn much to live here. And don't get me started on Obama care, it costs me $821 a month to health insure my family. Add another $256 for car insurance. $2k in mortgage. Vehicle registrations cost me $4k a year. It all adds up plus I drive 58 miles each way to work, gas costs me a bundle.

I actually need to sell a few of my trailers and possible one or two of the 16 vehicles. ( I really wish I was kidding)

3 Crew Cab Fords -----86, 87, 04
3 Chevy Tahoes----- 97, 99, 99
2 Camaros -------- 71, 96
4 El Caminos ------ 70, 71, 71, 72
1 Chevy K1500 ------ 96
2 Jeep YJ's  ------ 92, 94
1 Meyer's Manx ----- 73
1 Acura Integra ------ 99
Oops, I guess it is 17 vehicles....... the worst part is that only 4 of them run.

I've got too many trailers also...
33' toy hauler
37' car hauler
18' car trailer
20' equipment trailer
14' utility trailer
12' utility trailer

OK, when I write it down, wtf am I bitching about.

I am seriously working on getting my hoarding under control. It is one of those where if I fix it I can get more money, the problem is that I don't have the money to spend to fix it in the first place.

My friends have affectionately nick named me Fred Sanford.

Any psychologists on here?

At what point does "projects" turn into "hoards"......... This might be a shot in the dark, but I think I passed that line a looooong time ago.

2 of the crew cabs are supposed to make 1

4 of the El Co's are to make 1

2 of the Tahoe's are to make 1

The 2 Jeeps are to make 1

So that is a total of 6 vehicles that I just need to take the parts I'm keeping and scrap the rest. So give or take about 8 tons of scrap @ $150/ton  There's $1200 right there.

I think I need to have a California Chop Saw Massacre !!! LOL
