Hey gang,
I just wanted to introduce myself after signing up to your forum. I'm Taylor, 32 y/o dude from the snowy north. I don't own a 250R, unfortunately, but have been on quads since I was about 7 years old. Since I was a kid, the 250R has been a dream machine; I spent countless hours on the trails / quarries around my home town watching guys with R's run around, dreaming of my own. Unfortunately, at that time (and most of my life therafter) the feasability of owning one just wasn't there; expenses and other priorities in life didn't allow for it. I worked as a machinist for quite a long time, during that time running a 700 dollar Blaster and slowly transforming it into the race machine it is today; I've actually owned it for close to 15 years. In 2009, the recession struck home and I found myself unemployed. Since then, I've returned to college, graduated, and started a new career in engineering. With that, I feel that 25 years later, it's time to attempt to fill that childhood dream. I've been casually shopping for the right machine / deal, and it led me to your forum. I'm a board member for a Jeep club forum, and I look forward to getting to know some of you and seeing what this new group has to offer! Cheers to all and to keeping the 2-strokes alive!

Haha yeah it's been comin' down pretty good. I'm not in the Buffalo area though, so I'm missing out on all that fun; I have buddies out there running payloaders to clear snow and riding their snowmobiles to the bar ... err... the restaurant right on the main roads through town. Around here it's been more of a "standard" winter lol, nothing unmanageable so far.

How far are you from Fort Drum NY??....My son just got transferred there from Fort Hood Texas....He is 29 years old and was raised on 250rs for breakfast... lol...I can hook you up go meet him if you want...I'm sure he would love to talk to a fellow 250r enthusiast....

Ironically I'm spitting distance from there. I grew up down in the fingerlakes, but recently moved to the Watertown area for work after I graduated from school.

Welcome to the site and congrats on not just settling but rather going back to school to better yourself. A lot of great people on this site, really....best site I've been apart of.

Im just as upset we didn't get hit with all that snow buffalo did. I want 6ft of snow in 24hrs!!!!

Tador, awesome back story, I was in a similar boat as you up until about 4 years ago (39 now). I was always fascinated with the Trx250r even though I kept ending up with other bikes (rm85 at 14 years old onto a kx125, ktm125, 250x, LT500r, LT250r, Tecate-4, Z400, 350x) Then finally got a Trx250r about 4 years ago - sold it like a fool, then built another from scratch - sold that like a fool, then built my Laeger - that I have posted for sale like a fool but at top dollar (I have problems, emotionally self destructive)....

NOTHING beats the Trx250r..... The strange amazing Ora they give off just by looking at them is one thing! But they also ride and handle amazing when fresh.

If you don't have the beans to drop on a solid one, I would suggest buying a Frame and purchasing part by part using this forum for advice!! You will learn so much, know the bike inside out, and become an educator to those with dropped jaws when you go out riding. Or find one that's clapped out to rebuild (cheaper in the long run)

Stock frames roughly $300 and aftermarket used roughly $1000 (I would suggest aftermarket if you can, if not, no biggie really). Plus it's a fun adventure searching parts which I still do it today although I'm not buying (remember, I have problems).

Thanks for the welcomes and kind words! It's been an interesting ride the last few years for sure. Beobe99 I literally lol'd reading your post, but I understand where you're coming from completely! I think at this point I'd like to find a "good" deal on a nice machine, or a super cheap clapped out machine; whichever comes first I suppose. There's a few that I've been looking at, there's a sharp looking machine in PA for 3500, and a pretty complete but less nice one in MI for 1400. The prices are really all over the place so it's kind of tormenting trying to find "the one"; I swear this is worse than dating. Is your Laeger the one on Craigslist with the white frame and red 89 plastic? I have a 21' Checkmate boat that I think I'm going to unload to fund this life changing adventure.

That is my Laeger on Craigslist w/ white frame / red plastics. If water and the creatures within didn't creep me out I'd ask for some sort of a Trade on that boat! (although a quick search tells me the boats worth more?). I actually have a guy coming from Pittsburgh this weekend (5 hour drive) to come check it out so it's looking sold.. I'll prob. stick around to show off any new projects I get just because the Guys here are knowledgeable on most things and usually engage.

Back to that boat.. Not sure what it's worth but you may be surprised at how many people are willing to trade or trade / + cash either way.. Prob. not the best time to sell a boat, but might be a good time to trade!

Prices are all over, usually depends on area or the sellers knowledge / passion of the unit. There's a thread on here with someone asking "what to look for" when buying that may be helpful to you - like where to check for cracks in the frame and to check the engine cases for damage particularly around the front sprocket (hint, if there's no front sprocket guard the cases are prob. damaged there).. Cases are the opposite of cheap..

No kidding?! Haha what are the odds, I looked at that one in my search; very sharp! Looks very similar to the one I was obsessed with when i was a kid. The boat is a lot of fun and I hesitate to unload it, but I'm such a busy guy that I don't have a lot of time to take it out and use it as much as I'd like. I was planning on advertising it for 6500 or BO, it's pretty immaculate so it'll definitely make someone happy (I'm pretty particular about my toys). That sounds like a good thread to read, I'll look for it thanks! The one I mentioned for 3300 in PA is bout 5 hours from where I am currently, ironically, really nice lookin' machine though; very tempting! He wasn't interested in any trades, unfortunately. Also have an industrial scissors lift I've been pedaling on craigslist, no takers yet.
