couple ? about rear hub compatibility

I have a couple questions about rear hubs.
I would like to get a little more width without using wheel spacers or having to get a new axle. I thought I remember reading that the later year Rs were a little wider than the earlier years. If this is true and its the hubs could someone post a pic. The hubs I have I got from the site and don't know what year they came off of.

What other rear hubs fit on a stock 250r axle, (450r, 300ex etc... or ever other brands Yamaha, suzuki, etc..)

From what I have read I don't think 400ex hubs work with a 250r axle, correct me if I'm wrong.

And one last thing does anyone know what hubs are the same for the 400ex (250ex, 300ex, etc)? the reason I ask is I can use 400ex hubs on my Tecate4 and get rid of the 4/156 bolt pattern and use some of my 4/110 rims.

250 axle will not accept 400 hubs

Im not so sure the slight diff in width was made up in the hub,but I can ck tomorrow

that would be great fred. Heres the thing, I have a factory Honda service manual and it shows in the specifications that the overall width for 86-87 is 44.5" and after 87 is 45.7. I would think that this measurement is from the rear as it seems stock quads are wider in the back than the front.

The 86-87 models had a half inch spacer that could be moved on the axle. It came factory on the outside of the hub to give you the narrower 44.5" width.

I seen that last night looking at micro fiche's between the two years. So I take it that 1/2 inch was built into the back side of the hub on the later years. If thats the case looks like I already have later year hubs as I don't have that collar in front or behind my current hubs. I would still like to see some picks if they different. Looking on Ebay I have seen hubs that were called OEM and some look different from each other.

I measured hubs from 87/88 and they are the same face to face measurement,I also measured the width of oem tires on both year tires and the the 501s on the 88 are over an inch wider ,making the over all gain a little over an inch,because only half the extra width on each tire would add to the over all width of bike

I measured the length from the furthest ends of the splines on the different years and they are all close to being the same 33 3/4 inchs .that would mean the tires are the difference in the years

thanks for the info fred. But something was still bugging me and didn't make scene as I don't have that collar anywhere with my hubs and the castle nut came out flush with the axle. Then I did some looking and it appears to me that the axles were different in that the splines were cut farther into the axle. Here are a couple links to compare.

So I guess it comes down to if I want wider I have to spend it on new axle or after market hubs.

your correct ,spline length is different,axle
best because the added leverage makes the stock axle easier to bend .If you don't jump,no worrys

Most after markets rims are wider than stock. The offset is in the other direction from stock. Was not sure what wheels you are using

If i get 4 ft of air thats alot. So no worris there.
