Author Topic: Can I heat and bend this stinger a little? Pics...... (Read 3194 times)

Trying to quiet this sparks pipe a little, and installed an FMF Turbinecore2 tonight. The stinger diameter was perfect over the pipe. BUT, the bend in the stinger is to sharp, and the can sits at an angle and too far inside. The rear caliper would nail this can for sure when bottoming. My question: I have propane and mapp gas torch here.....Can I set this silencer up in a jig and vice, and place a deep socket that just fits into the stinger end with a leverage bar attached, and heat the bend cherry red, of this stainless stinger enough to take some of the bend out when bending it with the socket/bar? It just needs a few degrees less, and I should be able to get the can to run straight. Would I hurt anything trying this? Is mapp gas too hot? Propane not enough? See how the can tilts inward at the back in pics......

You can get a small propane torch and heat it up a lil and then put some roundstock in the end and bend it easily.. Just secure it in a vise or something. For such a small distance your not gonna mess up anything.. Maybe make sure that roundstock is really close to same diameter as the pipe tubing.. To not bend that out of round.. Also will see some discoloration too..

Looks like you need a space between the frame and silencer. I have always ran .5 to.75" spacers. Helps clear the caliper. Just make sure you have clearance around your read fenders or you will burn them.

I finally got it bent to line up and fit properly. It was NOT easy. :distrust:

Well, even with the mapp gas, getting it red hot didn't really soften it up much. With some redneck engineering and a LOT of muscle, I was able to get enough bend at the joint, to mount the silencer, with nothing touching or binding on the frame! Not sure how I did it, though. LOL It is still a little loud, but it is quiter than it was before, so that is all I ask for.
