Ive been thinking about going with an oversize tank for a bit but am now ready to decide. I have a standard houser stem right now and like it but read conflicting comments about standard stems working with oversize tanks. Whats the difference between clark and ims as far as dimentions and fitment? Id like to see standard length stem/oversize tank combo pics from R riders with no clearance issues please.

I don't know what brand of oversize tank I have but the stem did rub the tank some when turning.  I moved the tank back about an inch also.  It did work though.  Since then i have gotten a +2+1 stem and I don't have any issues anymore.

How did you move the tank back?

I moved my tank back to clear with a standard style stem.  You just shift the mounting bolts on the bottom of the tank back one.  And only use 1 of 2 on the bottom.  It works fine.  Still very secure.  Also made my seat lay flush against the tank now.  Im much happier.   Although i will be getting a +2 +1 stem someday.

They are Powermadd.   I only run them for muddy, or wet races.

I have an IMS 3.6, says trx-1 on the bottom.  I don't have any problems with it as far as fit and comfort go.  It took a while for me to accept the aesthetics of the thing.  When I first put it on I thought it stuck out like an extra foot- now I hardly notice the extra height and I don't worry about my fuel level anymore.  I would rather drain a wasted gallon on premix after a ride then worry about running out in the middle of the desert lol.  As you can see from the last pic it rubs on the bars but only at the terminal end of its radius and doesn't affect my turning ability.

you could always slot the rear tank mounts some to allow you to move the tank further back.  someone butchered these bad (don't have to make the slot too wide) but you get the idea.  I personally would have milled the slot to make it look more professional

Lol butchered is correct. Is the 4.0 and 3.6 the same height?

I have a +1+1 stem and just got a new 4.0gal IMS tank. When I get it put together i'll let you now how it fits.

A 4.0gal Clarke tank and standard length LSR stem worked fine for me on my old LSR bike

Does anyone have a reason  why a clark or ims is better than the other?

I think the IMS looks better and has a lower profile. Seems like they gained a lot of tank volume under the plastic, whereas the Clarke just sticks out of the top a lot more to achieve the extra volume
