my son is going to start racing a few races in the mid east harescrambles series and im wating to get him a set of riding boots but until his feet quite growing i really dont want to spend a ton of money on something he will grow out of quick anyone used some of the lower cost boots like the fly maveriks or the thor mx line? might even be interested in a lightly used pair if anyone has some size 10 1/2-11 laying around for cheap. hes always worn leather work boots but his mom wants every safety precaution if hes going to race as hes still her ( 16 YEAR OLD) baby. he will be running the 440ex until i get the xc chassis for the R done.

A few years ago I picked up a set of new alpinestars for 110 on a close out might keep your eyes open for that.

Arc from rocky mountain suck. Thought they needed a break in bit after a year they still were beyond uncomfortable

Dang your kid got some big flippers! And still growing you say? Might want to check out the internet stores for close out sales. Motosport, rocky mountain. There are many discount sites. I'm sure you can score a good deal. With lets say $150 you'll have a wide selection. Granted the boots will be the lower end however they will be name brand. Fox, Thor, msr, and many others have boots in the $100-$150 range. Good break in and a gel insert help in the comfort department

My first boots where the Thor quadrents, great boot for a decent price. I wear garne sg10's now and love them. But they're a little pricey. I found mine new with no box for less than $200

Tech 3's is what I'm using currently. Very affordable with good protection(I've broke both ankles in the past-at separate times tho). Once you get used to mx boots, you'll feel naked without them.

I am currently running Fly Racing Maverik Mx boots. They are very affordable and hold up well.

imo all the lower priced boots are going to be the same quality. if he goes down hard there is limited protection with the cheaper boots but none the less there better than nothing. last year i found a set of a stars tech 10's used on ebay for $280. i will never switch to another boot again!

I have many a racing - ex-racing friends that all swear by Alpine Stars. Their saying was "how do you put a price on safety?" I have one ex-racer friend that crossed-over to the Garne model (XXX) that cost $500 with the ankle pivot. He said that he really likes the better fit and movement. However, he has only had them 1 year and 3 of the buckles are broken. As said, even the lower price ones are better than no MX boot. I don't get that crazy on my machine so I've been buying/wearing the Garne trials boots. More kind of a work boot with some MX boot features.

Check craigslist as well for unused new boots. Some people buy stuff online then they don't fit.

Sidi cross fires if money is no object. I have had mine for years best investment. I could not wear alpine and many others because I have a plate in my ankle and it rubbed funny inside.

I've always wanted sidi's and finally when I did get some (purchased online) reviews say they run small. I bought 1/2 bigger then normal. They still ran small. Even without socks on they were small. They run really narrow. Other then that sidi's are cream of the crop.
