I'm not an expert so I can't really help other than to suggest give Pete at hybrid engineering a (360) 281-2274. He is in washougal. He helped me out.

Hickwheeler, I have a prox 310 at home. I can't explain the difference in port design but I'll be happy to show you the ports in my prox vs stock.

my cylinder on my bike is a pro x 330. Just not sure what direction I want to go.

What are your expectations from your engine?  What type of riding will the engine be used for?  What is your budget on the project?

The big question is:  Will the pipe you are going to use be optimum for the type of cylinder, porting, reeds, carb and head?  You can have a good combination of porting, reeds, carb and head with the wrong pipe and you will have an engine package that is an underperformer!  You can have a good combination of pipe, reeds, carb and head and have the wrong porting and you will have an engine package that is an underperformer!

There are design differences in the Pro-X 330 and the ESR 330s but will perform very similar if you have the basics (Pipe and porting) working together.  I like the exhaust port design of the ESR cylinders but I think ESR missed it on how the coolant circulates through the cylinder.  I like the reed cavity on the Pro-X cylinder and the intake port window on the ESR but it appears to me that an error was made when making the core box for the reed cavity on the ESR cylinder.  Rather than making a new core box, it appears to me the reed gasket surface was cut at a different angle to make the carburetor clear the frame cross member.

In summary:  The ESR of Pro-X cylinders work real well when you find an engine builder that has DONE THE TESTING so that he can recommend a pipe or can build a pipe that compliments the rest of the builders engine package.  Please do not show up at your engine builders shop with a box full of parts (pipe, cylinder, carb, reeds and ignition) and say port my cylinder for woods, or port my cylinder for dunes or port my cylinder for XC, .....etc.  We see this happen on a weekly basis and often we cannot build the engine package the customer wants because the customer brought us the wrong parts in the box.  It is like bringing all of the ingredients it takes to make chocolate chip cookies to a baker and ask him if he can make the cookies taste like oatmeal cookies using the ingredients you supplied.:joyous:

I just not sure what I want yet. when I got my bike it had a FMF fatty. Witch everything I had read said this to be bad for a 330. The original piston from this setup that I got in a box of parts with the bike. Showed the piston getting to hot by the exhaust port. So I switched to a bb boar pipe. Just not as happy with the power delivery. It was a trx5b cm. Now I have a lrd 350b I'm going to try. Wanting to get the power down a little lower. Just thinking the bb pipe might be just a little to big for this  330. So might just need to go a bit more.

Hick, if you ever want to get rid of that 350b pipe, keep me in mind. I have been looking for one for a while.

Best regards
