Spark Notes:Users should be responsible for updating / editing their thread; not forum management. Locked threads are still viewable and we will not be deleting threads.Keep reading for details..
I know it would be a lot of extra work dumped on mods/admins, but if at all possible I'd like to see classified adds locked once the items have been sold.
I agree that it would make browsing easier but at the expense of forum management time. And when a non-regular user posts, who is supposed to track them down to confirm if their item is still sold or available? That is a whole other can of worms that I personally am not interested in opening.
Justification:
1. It would save the masses from opening for sale ads and getting their hopes/dreams shattered.
2. It would prevent dead posts getting replies years later.
1. Locking a thread prevents replies, but it is still viewable. Thus, the OP and forum management would likely receive PM's asking why they cannot reply to XYZ Thread. Deleting "sold" threads would negate this, but I'm not about to do that as it provides great content as well as helps people find similar items for price checks, pictures, and other useful things.
2. Sure but a reply that resurrects an old thread isn't a big concern IMO.
I will take a look at adding some additional thread title prefix control (FS, FT, WTB, WTT, SOLD) which would make browsing the Classified Ads easier.
