Hello from north central Arizona! We live off grid on a huge ranch area that has been subdivided somewhat. I'm a 56yo disabled retired truck driver. My wife and I have 1 daughter (25) and 2 sons (19 and 20.) I've been a passionate dirt freak most of my life. My first dirt bike was a 5horse b&s mini bike. 6th grade. I've had a few since then. A Honda trail 50 was next, then a stripped down Honda 160 scrambler, then bought a Yamaha DT 125. Stripped it down, got a 175 jug and piston, chamber and forward mounted shocks. Man, that was top shelf stuff then! In 1976, I bought the first Yamaha yz250 to show up at the local Yamaha shop. Was the fastest thing on the planet! Had many cool dirt bikes since then, but due to a work accident in 2013, I no longer ride. So it fell to my sons. They started in the mid 00s the same way. We now have several cool toys. Since I don't ride anymore, I am the guy that fixes it. We have several teenagers around "the hood" with bikes, quads, ect. My 20yo son just purchased a very clean 1985 atc250r was mothballed for 10 years. We did the top end thing, piston, jug, head. Carb and fuel tank cleaning, ect. I need to talk to others about this rocket ship on 3 wheels so, I joined this site. Looking forward to rapping with you folks!

Thanks to all. My first concern is temperature of various components after a hard run
(The only kind it gets apparently)! Ambient temperature was low 50s/ upper 40s f. At "pit stop" head/cylinder temps were 195° top radiator tanks 175° lower tanks 125° water pump 175°. All this according to my whiz-bang cheepo laser thermometer. This seemed a bit high to me. I'm thinking ahead to summer temps of high 90s/low100s thoughts anyone? Thanks, a.f.g.

O ya, it burbles a bit at top of power band. Trying to determine if rich or lean. Main jet needle is on lowest (leanest) setting. We're at 5,900 ft elevation. Don't know what's been done before with the jetting. Need a starting point.

What I do, no matter what main jet is in it Jump up 8-10 jet sizes (this what I do) I go way rich or way lean then you know right off lean or Rich. Then I fine tune been doing it this way for 10 years...
