I got a new extended axle for my 85 ATC.  I need to use the stock drive sprocket from the original but I cannot seem to get it to come off.  I have been heating it up, pouring the PB blaster to it and hitting it with a pipe and hammer to try and knock it back to get the split ring out of the way with no results.  Is there a secret to get this off or do I just need to take it to a machine shop and have it pressed off?
Thanks

Most likley it needs presssed off, FYI it will need to be pushed toward the bearing carrier first to expose the snap ring.  Then remove the snap ring and push it back to the outside of the quad.

More than likely that axle has been exposed severely to the elements and that is why it is such a bear to come off! Now to remove axle bolt off it have drive chain still on and brake assembly on as well. Place atc on driveway gutter or use a 4x4 block of wood on flat piece of concrete with wood wedged between tire and concrete. Have a friend sit on biotic with bike in gear and have friend press down hard on rear brakes. And get the 2 biggest crescent wrenches you can and place on biggest nut on lock and push down it should come loose. Once loose you will have to have axle pressed off if you had that much issue loosening axle I'm sure a ton of water/moisture got in there. Hope this helps you.

What kinda torch ? Oxy / cet.  If propane its not gonna  get it hot enough.  If  the axle  is trash cut it on both sides of sprocket hub  so its easier  to beat with a bfh while in a vice or press it off.

This is exactly what I was thinking.  Just wanted to check before doing something that would damage parts.
Thanks

I think its a durablue stock replacement axle.. I got it with a basket case bike I bought from a guy in Ashburn.  Taking the wider axle and trying to use it in my 85 ATC build.

ok...then yes....you have to hit it towards the carrier side from the outside and it will exposed the clip....then pry it out with a screwdriver.....I had to do this a couple of weeks ago to swap out my Aluminum one for a new steel one.....it's a Bitch....but it can be done. Good luck. :)

Does anyone know if the LSR replacement drive sprockets will fit on an OEM axle, or are the splines different and will only fit a LSR aftermarket axle?  Durablue lists there replacement parts as not reverse compatible to OEM axles.  My OEM drive sprocket is not coming off the OEM axle and I will need a replacement to go on my (unknown manufacturer) aftermarket axle.
Thanks

YES! LSR Sprocket hubs will fit OEM axles.

How many Splines are on the Aftermarket Axle ?

I have a spare Dura-Blue you could test fit to see if it would work.

Let me know

I'd take it to a place with a press, that way you won't end up with any more hammer marks than you already have.  It shouldn't cost much.

I originally thought it was a Durablue axle that I had, but after some research it looks like its possibly a LSR axle as all OEM equipment fits over onto it for a swap.  Durablue's website states that all of their axles need to use their hubs and sprockets because they use a different spline count then OEM.

I took this OEM axle to my local shop who has a large industrial press.. It was not coming off.. They had it in there with the torch on it to heat it up and it would not budge.  They OEM axle is actually in really good shape and still has the yellow plating on it, very little corrosion.  I expected it to slide right off.

Didn't read through the whole post but are all the snap rings removed?

The snap ring on the drive sprocket side is still stuck on.  Was trying to press the sprocket back a little bit to get the snap ring out so it could be pressed off completely.. Thing wont move at all.  Looks like I will have to just find a replacement part instead of using the original again.

I recently had a stubborn ball joint like this & used pb blaster, liquid wrench, heat, a hammer & some other brand of mystery penetrating oil I found in the shop. I soaked it a couple times a week & after about a month of doing that & tapping it with a hammer it finally broke loose. Keep at it & it will free up sooner or later if you have the time.
