So. This was probably the most controversial races I've ever been in.
Got 4th in the holesot but about half way through the first lap, the first 3 riders decided not to follow the track. They took and old path that was the course last year and I guess it shaved off about a minute a lap. Yep. Course cutting. Not intentional though. They usually let us run a 3 hour practice in the morning and during that time, things like this get sorted out but lately they've only been letting us run a 30 minute sight lap so the course isn't getting attention in some spots as needed. But this particular corner was well marked. So the first 3 go on and I got passed by 5th place only to fight him back for about a lap and get the position back. As it turns out, I thought the first 3 guys realized their mistake, turned around and I'd put time between us. Not so much. They kept running that same line, cutting more and more time off their overall. One of the 3 finally realized what he was doing and said something to the race organizer about half way through the 70 minute race. They came out there and blocked off that passage then but the damage was done. I ended up 4th overall. (paper pic is the unofficial results, black and yellow is the official results on the website) Well the organizers reassessed the situation and penalized the first 3 riders a minute a lap for any lap under 8:30. But they didn't count the first lap because the first lap route took longer to run. So 'officially' I got 3rd. But funny thing is, I'm faster than 2nd place. Beat him already this year. So pretty upset I got screwed there. I heard other organizations just DQ you if you cut the course. I understand why TORN wouldn't want to but damn.
Oh well, enough complaining. I'll just beat the s#$t out of them the next round! lol
Quad ran awesome! Finally got the carb dialed in to where it needs to be and the bottom and first part of the midrange started coming alive. Really happy with the results and just got in a '99 CR250 ignition system yesterday and an ESR adapter plate (thanks again Eddie for the quick order) that is going to be taking the place of the old '87 analog version here today hopefully. I know it's not an '01 but scored the whole setup for just under $430 so I'm pretty happy. From what I've been told you can't really tell a difference between the '99 and '01 anyway. Here's to hoping. lol  Plug selection...Run the same BR8ES I was running with the '87's ignition or change to the recommended B8EG? Any other suggestions?

Good job, Jason. I personally think that is a load of crap. If the course was well marked, then they should have been DQ'd, or at the very least, they should have penalized for all laps that they "cheated". I hate that that happened to you, but it probably won't be the last either. There will always be cheaters of some sort.

As far as the cr ignition goes, I think you will really like it. However, the cr ignition revs extremely fast and will tend to stall a little quicker at low rpms. So I would seriously consider getting the heaviest flywheel weight you can find for it. I'm running a 14oz steahly on mind, and it helped out. Just something to think about.
As far as a plug, if you're going to consider the B8EG, consider the BR8EIX (iridium) plug as well. They last a good long time.

Thanks. Usually people are really good about not cheating. I know the guys and I'm positive it wasn't intentional but it does sting a little that I had such a good race and now it's tarnished. I wish my GoPro freakin worked. Stupid piece of crap! I absolutely would have caught them red-handed. New Ion Air Pro Lite in the mail. Stay tuned on how it works out...
I've been keeping an eye out for a flywheel weight already. Read a lot of guys like them. Just can't justify spending $100+ on one right now but I'm sure after the next race it'll be a top priority. lol On a side note, anyone have a cheap CR250 flywheel weight they'd like to sell?

They should have at least awarded you 1st place. Maybe not a DQ for the other guys, but they essentially penalized you for taking the correct course. That's BS

That's a crap thing to deal with!  Are there specific rules in that race class that talk about penalties for things like this?  Or just made up at the track level?

And on a better note.. would love to see pics from the race.

This is the official wording;
2. Racers are prohibited from shortening the track in any way such as cutting out obstacles or taking trick lines (cutting inside of ribbon or marked trail) If a rider loses control, and goes out of bounds or is knocked off the track, he/she must re-enter the race course at the same place or as close as physically possible to the location that they exited the course. Failure to do so could result in a docked lap or a DNF. If it is determined that a rider intentionally cut a section of the track to avoid an obstacle such as a jump or “woop”, or to gain position, the rider could receive a docked lap or a DNF..
I read they should be docked a lap or a DNF. It was unintentional and I understand not wanting to piss people off. Especially since the quads have such a poor turn out to begin with but I'm not so sure about this outcome.

It probably was unintentional, but that doesn't mean it wasn't wrong. You got punished for doing the right thing. I would bitch about it for sure

Thanks for the support guys. I thought I was getting screwed over a bit.
I didn't get any pics. S#!tty GoPro. But I am trying to round some up from our organization photographer. When my new cam comes in I'll be back to posting annoying, memory eating vids again. lol
Almost have the new CR ignition on...hehehe

ive been stuck behind cheaters before too. some not intentional one was 100% intentional but whatever, it will catch up to them one day lol.

i missed my first race last weekend and am jonsin hardcore to ride!

you wont be able to tell any difference between 99 and 00/01. i dont use a weight on my cr flywheel and im happy with it.

good luck for the rest of your season

ps. my daughter and i still have your skid plates from last year. hers is perfect mine has been bashed pretty good but i think it will last this season. i love the plastic because it just slides over stuff where aluminum would grab at rocks. its been good to me for sure! im pretty sure an aluminum one would be pretty much shot from what i put yours through last season! haha

Glad to hear they're holding up well for you. I've got a thicker, 1/4" one now too so when/if you ever need to swap yours out and want the thicker one, just let me know and I'll make the change.
What series are you running?
