Need help with a moddest XC suspension build
« on: August 12, 2013, 12:09:04 PM »
I'm going to slowly put together a suspension upgrade over the next 7 months, and I would like all your help in what i should do! This is what i want: I'm getting older but i really enjoy trail riding and hair-scrambles, and hopefully if my "R" will let me, i want to do the GNCC at Aonia Pass in 2014 (signed up last year but ran into Electrical issues that kept me out). Anyway, I don't want to get beat to death with 25 year old shocks, i'm looking to stabilize and cushion so I don't feel like I went 10 rounds with Tyson. Things on my mind: Anti-vibe?? Stay standard or +1 etc. Style and length of shocks, keep rear oem shock or replace? I'm a hard working lower middle class guy with a 3 year old and wife so money for hobbies has to be planned for. (hence why i'm asking... to get a game plan) I would like to know what you would do "Suspension only" front and back to give the best trail ride possible. I am not planning any engine changes. I currently run a 66.5 can in a stock cylinder and it is enough for me... "for now"

Thanks!!

Chris

x2 on talking to Laz @ GThunder. I have his HLS Elite front shocks and they work great. Was a pleasure dealing with them as well.

Laz has countless hours tuning suspension for XC racing, and lots of time with 250r's as well. He's also at every single GNCC and most of the local CRA hare-scrambles here in Ohio

X3 on GTthunder..
IMO I would opt for flexx bars over a anti-vibe stem...
Also, do you have a stabilizer?

Thank you guys!! Ill defintly give Laz a call. My "R" is pretty much stock so no stablilizers or anti-vibe. Just looking at ebay prices i am going to start looking for these "part out" bikes. Do the 450R A-arms match up to the 250R? I found a guy parting a 04 450R with long travel and elkas.

Shocks might...but it depends on what arms you end up getting.
