I know as soon as I started running a cr ignition on my 391 it fixed a lot of what I thought was tuning issues. The 391 ruined 2 flywheels some how? Not sure if the magnets were already falling apart and the bigbore power finished them off or if they both suffered an instant catastrophic failure. Have you tried another oem cdi?
What are you running carb and jet wise? I went with Pete's jetting starting point advice but ended up going fatter on the main.

I haven’t tried another cdi. I was just trying to break-in. I really only opened it up on one short ride. I have 38 pwk AS. Went with Eddie’s recommendations. 48 pilot, dgh 4th pos, and 190 main.

my hunch is that it was bogging on the face of the dune because the 190 main was way too fat
