2 stroke oil in bottom of cases?
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:41:37 PM »
Pulled off my 310 top end to replace it with a 330 top end.  Turning the crank over there is about an inch of 2 stroke oil in the bottom of the crankcase.  Is this normal?  The crank webs were wet from it.  I run amsoil dominator at 40:1 with sunoco 110.  had 210 psi compression so that should be enough to burn everything.  Any opinions would be appreciated.  Should I go to 50:1?

Inch deep or inch long? Does your petcock seal? If its an inch deep then sounds like your gas is leaking into the motor. It is normal to see stroke oil on the bottom of the tins

It is definitely an inch deep it did not seem thin enough to be gas/oil mix but it was bright red like my Amsoil

That sounds like gear oil. Sounds like a leaking seal.

How long had it been setting? Usually most of that would burn after a couple minutes of operation. The oil/gas leaking by a petcock leaves oil behind as the gas evaporates.

about 4 days.  I have been fighting the problem of it loading up at partial throttle in higher gears and lower rpms.  Maybe I rode it really slow last time into the yard and that is what happens?  I just dont remember there being  that much oil in the crank area.  Fuel is definately not leaking when turned off.  And it fires up second or third kick every time.

I put the 330 top end on it and fired it up.  No excessive smoke at all......started as good as expected for a just assembled top end

I don't believe your supposed to have an inch deep of 2 stoke oil in the cases. Seems like it would burn while you were riding. I run 30:1. Is your jetting rich?

I know the last time I ran it I was quite a bit rich by the end of the day it started out at 50° and we ended up about 75 I had it set about right in the morning and by the afternoon it was way too rich. I was 60 miles away from the truck and did not feel like messing with it so I guess that is a possibility

Don't think it does hurt anything. It is good though if you wash the bike like I do all the time and get water in the bottom end. Won't rust up your rod bearing.

the two stoke oil leaves  the mix when vaporized entering the crankcase everthing is slash oiled by the crank .the oil is wicked up to the exhaust port and exits from there  If that oil is not in the bottom you should be worried

after a while premix oil will get real thick like that...if you have ever left gas in a carb for a long time without starting it oil will just pour out of carb when you open it up
