I'd stick with your 2001 cr ignition vs. buying this, presuming that's what you have.

Yes sir, Bought it way back in 2008. single best mod I did to my R. I just assumed newer was better, even though they are both a digital ignition

the 2001 still has the best curve for our 250r engines, there are alot more components in play with the 2002 or never cr ignitions due to power valve connections integrated in the harness. the 2000 or 2001 ignitions are no longer available new from Honda , Bdt is probably the only place you can still buy one. You can also look around on craigslist for cr part outs, and buy them cheap. i just bought 2 ignitions yesterday all complete.

Don't forget about the CR500 ignitions from Service Honda. I believe RSSS396 did a write-up on this not too long ago. I'll have to find it

I can't believe the cost of the '07 kit. That's bullshit

When you look at that link posted that is what you should expect the parts of a new Genuine Honda OEM ignition kit to look like, in Honda OEM Factory packaging. It is too bad that the price went up but I believe it is only 40.00 more then the 700.00 ziplock and saran wrap 01 being sold. If you are going to buy a new kit the 740.00 07 vs the 700.00 01 doesn't seem to sting as much as it would if the 600.00 01 kit was still available. Another thing about the newer kits is that in the future you will be able to get a genuine honda replacement component if you ever need it.

No, but I have a complete spare 02 CR 250 ignition w/ timing plate.  I lent the 02 to rsss396 to test a few months ago and he did a thread on it.  The thing I like about the 00-01 ignition is the simplicity.  The 02 has additional wiring and a larger CDI that make it less compact and messy to mount up to an ATC.  The TRX would be easier to mount up an 02-07 though.

Instead of paying $740 I would watch eBay and craiglist to piece together an 00-01 cr ignition if you can't find a whole setup below $400.  Also in Phoenix I see complete 00-01 CR 250 bikes sell for $1000 < $1500 so you could buy a bike, pull the ignition, and buy a $75 ESR timing plate.  Then part out the cr 250 and you could probably net out a free ignition if you took the time w/ the CR 250 part out.
