are there any weight saving benefits of carbon fiber wheels compared to aluminum?  i realize CF is more durable.

The CF wheels are definitely heavier. I have non-beadlock Tech-3's in the front to save a little weight but they are still pretty heavy. Not as heavy as a full beadlock aluminum wheel like Douglas Shamrocks though.

But the durability is no myth :) I have had one of my sets for 5 years with no issues.

It says right on Hiper's website that their wheels are not any lighter than a comparable aluminum wheel.

They are no lighter than any aluminum wheel that I have run in the past.  I run +2 A-arms and my Tech 3 hipers are a 4+1 offset and it sets me at 47.5" wide.  I bought mine because you can replace all the individual components.  The CF1 that you are looking at does not provide this feature.  I think both versions are highly durable.  Be aware that if you buy a used set of rear Tech 3, there are two different styles.  The new style has an o-ring that seals the wheel center.  The old style has a rubber piece on each side of the center.  If you have to buy new wheel halves, Hiper does not sell them for the old style.  The new ones work, but you may have to machine them to fit the center.  Also check for stripped beadlock inserts or inserts that have come out of the wheel.  If that happens, you have to buy a new wheel half because the insert is cast into the wheel when it is made.

I run the CF Hipers for dirt mx and trail riding. Love em.. They never break beads and I can beat the hell out of them. They still look new. I run the Douglas Blue labels .125's on my sand tires. Love them both for each application. I have to look at the new DWT A5's never seen or heard of them before.
Hypers are definitely HEAVIER!

Love my Hipers, one of the best product I've ever used on an atv.  We're always bending aluminum wheels here in rocky Pennsylvania.  I've had my Hipers for about 6 years and put thousands of miles on em with no failure. But... I did manage to break one last summer and it wasn't the wheels fault.  I got a flat tire on the rear and didn't notice it till after we blasted through a rock garden. Turns out I busted one of the halves.  I had to email Hiper because I have the older style wheels, I bought em around 2006-7, they're dual beadlocks, Hiper sold me a half from the new Tech 3's and it was identical to my old half. Bolted it up and haven't had a problem since.  I think they charged me around 60 buck shipped for the wheel half.

Also, get the 4:1 offset fronts.
