Thanks for the detailed reply Robsessed86! I will be just fixing up a few things and doing tires and suspension before I do motor work, unless there's a few simple mods I can do.

the great air filter debate has been going on forever lol. from personal experience every bike ive tried to use k&n's on when I pull the filter after a ride to clean I could always wipe some dust/dirt from the intake tract. no matter how light the reside in the tract is, its still too much to risk destroying my motor. switched to two stage unis and have had perfectlu clean intake tracts ever since. the supposed "performance gain" of the higher flow is not noticeable if there is one so its a no brainer for me.

same here!

Nice looking R & welcome to the site.... You can ziptie the cracks in the plastic & use them as your beater set. Also if it the previous owner didn't already install one, an 85 atc head gasket can be used to raise the compression a little.

Sweet, I might do that.

What plastics should I replace them with? I think Maier is the only choice unless I can find a set of used ones.  I've read that the Maier plastics aren't that great, so... Suggestions?

For oem plastic your best bet may be to keep an eye on your local craigslist. They turn up now & than, I picked up a set of mostly uncut oem's that are a little nicer than yours for 80 so the deals are out there if you watch for them.Typically people selling nice oem plastic on e-bay or forums know what they got & the price reflects that. I don't have any personal experience with aftermarket plastic but I heard maier's not as bad as they used to be & who knows if fullbore will ever make R plastic again.

Screw fullbore oem all the way, build the motor first and then the suspension is always what I've done but I'm a bit backwards being a dune drag guy.

These guys got it all WRONG. here are the first TWO things every new 250R owner should know.

Firts, Trx250r.Org is THE BEST forum with the best knowledgeable members and professional builders on the net hands down.

Second, you should never do business with a company in Rancho Cuccmungo, California that claims to be a professional national winning business with knock off discontinued OEM parts without Honda packaging. Regardless of how good the deal may sound do not go there. The brethren here on .org will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have. We will always point you in the right direction.

Lastly, welcome:) we like pictures so keep them coming.
